    Title: OB Technician / Surg Tech
    Location: Milwaukee, WI
    Contract: 13 Week assignment
    Shift: 12 hour night shift 7pm-730am - weekends required
    Requirements:
    Previous experience as a Surgical Tech or OB Tech is strongly preferred.
    One of the following is required:
    --- State of Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
    --- State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification
    --- or completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technologist Program
    --- In addition, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required

The Froedtert & MCW health network, which includes five hospitals, more than 1,700 physicians and nearly 40 health centers and clinics, draws patients from throughout the Midwest and the nation.
    Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, the OB Technician performs a variety of routine duties within the obstetric department including organization of environment, maintenance of equipment, assisting with operative/delivery room procedures, basic tasks necessary to provide for care, comfort and safety of patients, and clerical support. Responsible to the Labor and Delivery Leadership, Charge Nurses and the RN's on duty on each assigned shift. Other duties as assigned.
    (Patient Care):
    --- Assists with tasks related to patient hygiene: Performs complete and partial baths., positions patients, assists patients with general hygiene (perineal care, oral hygiene, bathing, showering, etc.),
    --- Assists with tasks related to nutrition and hydration: Distribute fluids as needed, assist with ordering of meals, collection and documentation of I&O.
    --- Assists with tasks associated with maintaining mobility: Ambulation, transferring, positioning, turning, lifting, assisting to the bathroom (including bed pan or commode), assists with application or removal of DVT prophylaxis under the direction of the RN.
    --- Performs additional patient care duties including but not limited to: obtaining vital signs, obtaining blood glucose levels, emptying foley catheters, removing IVs, post mortem care and any additional patient care duty delegated by the RN.
    --- Assists with tasks related to newborn care: providing newborn baths, changes newborn diapers, assist with infant feeds at the direction of the registered nurse, transferring infant to and from the crib, obtaining infant pictures, completes infant hearing screens and any additional patient care duty delegated by the RN.
    --- All above tasks require appropriate documentation.
    (Quality):
    --- Utilizes AIDET with all internal and external customers; incorporates key words at key times with patient interactions; Individualizes interventions that enhance the patient experience; takes a proactive approach to meeting patient needs beyond designated assignment. Performs Purposeful Hourly Rounding
    (Safety):
    --- In the process of performing essential functions, the OB Tech shall consistently: Apply standard precautions and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); Utilize proper isolation techniques; Uses proper hand washing technique; Uses appropriate body mechanics to prevent injury to self and patient; Follows the plan of care as directed by the Registered Nurse; Maintains patient confidentiality and provides for patient safety; Understands how applicable laws and regulations policies and procedures impact specific job responsibilities and functions. Assists with time outs per policy prior to procedures. Assists with vaginal sponge counts for vaginal deliveries. Participates in the counting of sharps, sponges and instruments used in surgical procedures.
    (Collaboration/Teamwork):
    --- Collaboration with Registered Nurses: Works with the Care team to promote positive patient outcomes; promptly reports to the nurse any recognized abnormality in patients signs and symptoms; welcomes opportunities for learning, professionally accepts delegated activities and completes the activity in a timely manner or promptly notifies RN when unable to complete an assigned task; Proactively communicates with the Charge Nurse/ Shift Coordinator regarding staffing concerns and/or concerning situations; Communicates in a respectful and genuine manner, communicates delays and provides assistance as needed.
    --- Collaboration with Physicians: Utilizes physician preference lists during procedures and modifies setups for individual patient needs; Welcomes opportunities for learning, views challenges as opportunities for improvement, fosters the spirit of teaching and learning from one another; Communicates in a respectful and genuine manner, communicates delays and proves assistance as needed.
    --- Collaboration with colleagues and ancillary staff: Demonstrates flexibility in meeting work demands and willingly assists team members to meet or exceed customer expectations in a timely manner; accurately provides report to oncoming shift of activity, priorities pending work assignments; Communicates in a respectful and genuine manner, communicates delays and proves assistance as needed.
    (Environment):
    --- Cleans unit based patient care equipment between use and as needed; assists in keeping the environment and individual rooms neat, orderly, safe, clean and clear of debris and equipment; Maintains cleanliness of patient rooms and nursing unit including: removing dirty linen and emptying patient garbage.
    --- Accurately stocks supplies and equipment within the unit (patient rooms, stock rooms, operating rooms, supply carts and other areas that require restocking); While stocking, ensures intact packaging and discards outdated items; monitors inventory levels and replenishes stock supply Keeps track of dirty rooms following discharge and ensures prompt cleaning of the room and accurate restocking of the room to ensure a quick turn over of patients.
    --- Opens/sets up the room for new admissions and maintains the presence of supplies/equipment in preparation for patient care.
    --- Cleans patient rooms, OB ORs as needed; assists EVS with cleaning of the rooms when able to ensure a prompt turn over to promote patient safety.
    EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Previous experience as a Surgical Tech or OB Tech is strongly preferred.
    EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent and one of the following;
    --- a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program (Associate, Diploma, or Certificate),
    --- or a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technologist Program (Associate, Diploma, or Certificate),
    --- or CNA or LPN is required.
    SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and medical terminology is required.
    LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
    One of the following is required:
    --- State of Wisconsin licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse,
    --- State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification;
    --- or completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Medical Assistant Program,
    --- or completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
