ONLY CURRENT CITY OF BREMERTON EMPLOYEES ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. The salary indicated above includes longevity (1% earned after five years and increases to a maximum of 4% after 20 years). Assigns and directs the work of individuals and crews operating heavy and specialized equipment while performing maintenance, repair and installation work to assure effective operation of streets, sidewalks and right-of-ways. Representative Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Note - this list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position.) Ensures safe work zone and practices. Performs as lead worker for construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and right-of-ways. Coordinates purchasing, materials, tools, equipment, road closures, public notification, and personnel prior to initiating new construction. Operates and supervises the operation of such equipment as dump truck, back hoe, bulldozer, grader, concrete saw, asphalt roller, skid steer, and various other construction equipment. Assists in planning and execution of complex, difficult and everyday projects. Assists Supervisor in the hiring and evaluation of employees. Determines and analyzes problem areas and determines possible corrective action(s). Estimates the cost of correction. Orders materials necessary to perform the task. Sets and operates within timelines to complete projects to ensure smooth cost effective cooperation between city and contractors. Assists engineering in the planning of construction of projects and mapping of current system. Installs and/or modifies speed humps, traffic circles, etc. Removes snow and ice by using sand, de-icing and snow removal equipment. Trains assigned employees within their area of work; in maintenance and up to date repair methods and techniques, proper operation of various specialized equipment, in the setup and use of equipment, and verifies the work of assigned employees for accuracy. Inspects, cleans, and repairs small tools and equipment, replaces worn items and installs new or replacement parts. Inspects vehicles and equipment for deficiencies prior to operation on a daily basis. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, resolves complaints independently in an efficient and timely manner, and provides notice and information within the area of assignment. - Snow removal techniques and salt brine preparation.
- Vegetation control which includes City right of ways grass, weeds, along with any vegetation obstructing signs.

Qualifying Education and Experience (Minimum Requirements) Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in street maintenance and construction projects. Must have valid Washington State Driver's License. Special Requirements --- CDL with class A endorsement. --- Flagger Certification. --- Traffic Control Supervisor Certification Physical Requirements - Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
- Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
