Verifies patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.Performs common testing procedures and reports test results.
Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.Phones Critical Values according to policy.Performs proficiency testing as assigned by supervisor and according to policy.Performs quality control testing.
Follows specimen rejection policies and procedures.Follows troubleshooting procedures to resolve instrumentation, testing, or QC problems.Documents remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from policies and procedures.Utilizes the laboratory and hospital QA/PI plans to continually improve processes and designs.Maintains supplies needed for the performance of tests.Assists with the teaching and training of new employees.Minimum Education:
Associate's Degree with medical technician training, preferred.50-week US military medical laboratory training course and a minimum of 2 years experience, -acceptable.
- -Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Typical Physical Demands: These may require extended periods of standing or sitting. Some bending, stooping, or stretching is required. May require lifting and carrying 5-25 pounds. Requires full range of motion including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Requires ability to communicate and interact with others in person and on the phone.
