Summary You will serve as a Health Physicist in the Radiological Affairs Support Office (NAVSEA DET RASO) of NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORTThis position is located at Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, VirginiaDuties--- You will support of the Department of the Navy's (DoN's) radiation safety program and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission(NRC)-issued Master Materials License (MML).--- You will serve as a radiological technical expert for the command, providing for the protection of personnel and limiting exposure to the environment from the use of radioactive material and equipment producing ionizing and radiation.--- You will evaluate and analyze interrelated issues related to radiation protection and environmental compliance including effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of substantive Navy and Marine Corps mission-oriented programs.--- You will conduct evaluations of ionizing radiation hazards in a variety of operational environments that may or may not have impact on each other.--- You will integrate theoretical and scientific expertise with established criteria to develop methods or set precedents for new approaches to program investigation, inspection and corrective actions.--- You will provide recommendations that directly influence the use of ionizing radiation at Navy and Marine Corps commands and affects the plans, goals, and effectiveness of their missions and programs.--- You will coordinate assigned and special projects involving the use or control of radioactive materials or equipment capable of producing ionizing/non-ionizing radiation.--- You will serve on the Navy's radiological controls team responsible for worldwide response for radiological and nuclear weapons accidentsRequirements Conditions of Employment--- Must be a US Citizen.--- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.--- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.--- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification checkTo learn more about E-Verify, including your rights and responsibilities, visit e-verify.gov--- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade levelThis requirement is called time-in-gradeTime-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.--- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.--- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.--- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment and annual physical examination.--- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on dutyFailure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.--- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is requiredA tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the testYou will be subject to random testing.--- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sitesYou must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of timeQualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band (NH-02) or grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional health physicist reviewing and evaluating radiological remediation work plans and surveys for an organizationAdditional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:
