Safety Specialist - Broward & Palm Beach, FL - Fort Lauderdale Florida

Overview The Safety Specialist enforces safety policies and procedures in order to establish and promote a safety culture among all company employees. This position will be responsible for overseeing and promoting the overall safety program for a specific region. Prinicipal Duties and Responsibilities: - Conduct daily job walks in order to ensure employees are demonstrating safe work behavior and adhering to all the Company's safe work practices, targeting more frequent visits for higher hazard jobs
- Enforce disciplinary action on employees who demonstrate a disregard for safety policies and procedures, issue violations when warranted
- Review all new projects and activities for safety related or high hazard job exposures and make sure any hazardous conditions are addressed with management and eliminated
- Interface with Operations management on a regular basis to ensure safety compliance and buy-in
- Attend scheduled meetings to ensure safety presence
- Manage and investigate all near misses, incidents, and injuries in coordination with company and state regulations, report findings to leadership
- Complete new hire paperwork for field employees and conduct new hire safety orientations
- Implement and administer government required safety, health, and environmental programs to ensure facility safety and compliance
- Conduct monthly/periodic inspections of the facility for environmental compliance; conduct routine safety inspections to control occupational hazards
- Maintain and manage the facility's safety program, including ownership of the Lock Out - Tag Out program
- Generate and maintain government required OSHA logs, surveys, and employee postings
- Perform job safety hazard analysis
- Conduct on site and informal new hire and current employee safety training as required by State, Federal, and Company requirements and maintain all training logs and records
- Track the effectiveness of Company safety and environmental programs and adjust appropriately
- Lead the coordination and administration of the facility's safety, health, and environmental program
- Work with site management and departments to maintain a safe work environment Global Responsibilities:
- Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position
- This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs Qualifications:
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications: - High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
- Must understand laws and regulations as they relate to safety compliance and previous experience dealing with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience with safety as core responsibility
- Experience in the Ready-Mix industry preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Advanced in Microsoft Office
- Strong and effective communication skills in person, phone, and via email
- Strong time and project management skills
- Ability to collaborate and work well with people throughout all levels of the company
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, detail oriented, and well organized
- Ability to prioritize and quickly respond to challenges under tight deadlines and work well under pressure Working Conditions:
- Operates within a professional office environment, as well as at job sites which includes some exposure to extremes in temperature, moisture, dust, and noise
- Regularly works outdoors in all weather and ground conditions
- Routine usage of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
