Lab Supervisor Division/Department: PorkLocation: MarshalltownJob title: Laboratory SupervisorReports to: Joel RodriguezNonexempt Hourly Rate: Level: Type of position:Full-timeShift 1st & 2nd shiftHours:Must be flexible ExemptInternal applicant must have less than 3 attendance points in order to apply.General Description:Plan, manage, and supervise the activities of a centralized laboratory & perform standard biological, microbiological, & chemical tests relative to food safety to assure their delivery in an accurate & timely fashion using proper safety precautions.Collect and monitor the collection of pre-operational, operational, & environmental samples for testing in the laboratory.Assist with pre-operational inspection if needed.Prepare and supervise preparation of reagents, media, & solutions necessary for the performance of all laboratory tests.Test or trial new & improved laboratory methods & procedures.Enter data and prepare laboratory notes, reports, charts & graphs.Responsible for maintaining lab inventory, ordering all equipment & supplies.Create and update all Standard Operating Procedures for lab.Evaluate lab staff performance.Member of the audit team
fully participate in internal audits, Purchase Program Audits, BRC Audits, etc.Prepare and ship customer sample requestsIn charge of Temp Logger Program for carcasses and products in the plantDepartmental lead for managing the QA Budget
understand budget/expenses, ordering of supplies for department, etc.Maintain the SIP (Salmonella Testing Program) Flexible hours and ability to work different shifts if necessary for plant needsManage and engage employees that report to them as well as others outside the departmentInput and maintain data in Safety Chain ProgramRequired skills:Be able to communicate written and verbally in EnglishBe able to work all shifts as neededPrevious experience with food safety (meat industry) & microbial/chemical testingExcel, Word, & Power PointEducation Requirements (if applicable)Preferred Bachelor degree in microbiology with some chemistry background or 3-5 years
