Job Summary:The Certified Nurse Midwife position provides antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal and intraconceptional care in accordance with written midwifery protocols, which have been approved by the institution s Medical Board, Mid-level Practitioner Section; Department of OB/GYN.There is opportunity for a faculty appointment at Rutgers.Essential Functions: - Assess the status of the patient, develop and implement a plan of care with the patient during the prenatal, intrapartal, postpartal, neonatal, and intraconceptional period.
- Establishes a complete data base concerning the patient through history taken, physical examinations, and appropriate laboratory data.
- Maintains the qualifications for full credentialing on the medical staff as a Certified Nurse Midwife, including participation in continuing Educational programs.
- Manages patient labor, including delivery of newborn, utilizing medication and performing procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Plans and provides health care for women.
- Provides contraceptive guidance.
- Provides immediate and follow-up care of the newborn infant, including ongoing assessment and follow-up with postpartum family.
- Provides patient education relevant to the obstetrical patient s health care.
- Seeks medical consultations for patients with deviations from standard guidelines; performs ongoing review of care, including evaluation, and documentation in the medical record.
- Works closely with nursing and attending staff and shall ensure a productive, cordial atmosphere conducive to quality patient care.
- Candidate must have L&D or Postpartum nursing experience.
- Current New Jersey licensure as a Certified Nurse Midwife required; current New Jersey licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
- BSN and MSN in nurse-midwifery from an accredited program required.
- BLS and NRP certifications required.
