Controls Engineer - Grass Lake Michigan

This position requires a goal-oriented manufacturing automation controls technician capable of working independently, but as part of a team to deliver controls integration and solutions where needed to maintain equipment uptime and improve throughout. The tech will specialize in one or more of the following technical specialties: robotic welding integration (Fanuc/Yaskawa), Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic development, configuration, and programming, Physical piping and wiring for electrical and pneumatic systems on new and existing equipment. Capable of working around production operations demands and timelines. +80% of the time will be spent onsite at North American plants (USA/MEX/CAN). Additionally, this role includes supporting machine repair and recovery from downtime issues, and equipment moves within the NA Network of plants in support of production needs and footprint strategies. This is a highly mobile role that will include frequent travel to plant and vendor sites within the NA regions. - Integration of tooling into existing equipment for new product launches
- Automation systems integration on new or existing equipment to improve performance and/or reduce headcount.
- Travel to plant or supplier locations to work. Off-shift and weekend work to accommodate production schedules possible. +45 hours/week.
- Support manufacturing to recover down equipment/trouble-shooting when necessary.
- Utilize data to drive decisions.
- Identify and implement manufacturing process improvements (performance, scrap, availability).
- Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience / Skills: Education / Experience : - 3-5 years of related robotic/controls automation experience or ability to demonstrate experience and expertise in hands on robotic/controls integration and programming.
Skills: - Proven project planning abilities, including successful execution of such plans.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Demonstrated use of a team-oriented approach.
- Experience working with PLC or Robotic based systems in a manufacturing environment. Allen Bradley, Fanuc, and Yaskawa based preferred. Siemens and other brands of controller experience is a plus.
- Mig welding knowledge (current, travel speed, torch angle, travel angle, penetration, leg length, throat etc)
- Experience working with equipment suppliers and following progress through launch.
- Proficiency with PC applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process development, fixture design, tooling / gage design, and equipment design.
- De-bugging and Trouble-shooting skills on industrial based equipment systems. Capable of solving or perceiving potential problems on new or existing equipment in a time sensitive, urgent way.
Travel : - Ability to travel in support of job function, and on short notice (NACA facilities, suppliers, etc.).
- Must be capable of international travel when required (Canada/Mexico).
