DescriptionCORPS: Everett POSITION: Cook STATUS: Non-exempt/ Full-time COMPENSATION: $ 22.00 hr GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is the spiritual regeneration of all people. SCOPE OF POSITION: Responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals as needed for Corps and Shelter programming DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plan nutritious meals using food that is donated, commodities, or purchased.
- Handle the purchasing of food as needed.
- Ensure food handling and preparation safety policies and regulations are implemented.
- Supervise volunteers as kitchen helpers and servers
- Oversee the cleaning of the kitchen to be sure that Public Health Department regulations are followed
- See that the kitchen is maintained in a safe manner
- Oversee the proper storage of food and supplies
- Work with the Shelter Supervisor to plan meals for special events (i.e., Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, etc.) and monthly menus.
- Work with the Social Services Director to determine what product may be used for the program.
- Responsible for gathering/purchasing grab-and-go breakfast items, snacks, and easy-to-make lunch items for the shelter program.
- Any other duties related to running the meal program may be assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: - An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, and practices
- Experience as a cook in menu planning, purchasing, and food service
- Ability to accurately figure the costs of meals.
- Ability to work independently with good judgment
- Current food handlers' certificate
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: - Plan nutritious meals using food that is donated, commodities, or purchased.
