The Medical Assistant assists the Physician and nursing staff with documenting the patient encounter into the EMR. They also function to perform various patient care tasks, and exhibit teamwork characteristics with Physicians and other staff. The Medical Assistant is responsible for completing clinic and administrative tasks.Essential FunctionsAnswers phonesPerforms general nursing care to patients by following established standards and proceduresGreets patients and takes them back to roomsInterviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patient chartsMay be required to draw and collect blood or urine samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysisPrepares examination rooms and maintains daily cleaning listFilling out procedure consentsSchedules patients for diagnostic testing and follows up to ensure completion of testingCommunicates with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the PhysicianFormulates and documents patient care plans, charts, tests, and examination results in the medical recordPrepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains process, and positions patients to capture images requested by the PhysicianEscalates non-routine issues to the Office Manager or PhysicianGood attendance is expected of all employees as a normal condition of workPerforms other duties as assigned by the Office Manager or PhysicianCompetenciesAbility to perform EKG's, draw blood, and administer injectionsAbility to effectively communicate to staff and patientsExcellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease. Appears friendly, reassuring, approachable, and caring to patientsDemonstrates sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situationsStrong computer skills using a medical management software and prior experience with EMR's is highly preferredPossess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalismAbility to thrive in a fast paced environmentDemonstrates initiative, insight, and judgement in decision-making processKnowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation, and proceduresInfection Control CategoryThis job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks.HIPAA Privacy and Confidentiality RequirementsThe Medical Assistant will have access to confidential information, both written and oral, in the course of his/her employment and job responsibilities. In order to maintain the integrityof Protected Health Information (PHI), this information is not to be disclosed to any unauthorized individuals as outlined in the Policies and Procedures of HRMD.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional medical clinic and office environment. This role routinely works around medical devices and patient room equipment in addition to standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and include (but are not limited to):the ability to stand/walk for up to twelve (12) hours per daybend, stoop, twistassist patients in turning, rising from recliners and stretchersassist patients in and out of wheelchairs, push wheelchairsthe ability to lift up to 25 pounds and carry materials weighing up to 25 poundsTravelThis position may require some travel.Educational and Experience RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum six months related Medical Assistant experienceBLS certification preferredCurrent certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferredCompensation$17 - $20/hour, depending on experience More...
