Behavior Support Assistant

10-month position

$1,000.00 Signing Bonus

Job Goal:

Behavior Support Assistant will provide extended classroom support and follow up for students who have received services through the Behavior Outreach Specialists. Behavior Support Assistants will monitor and model evidence/research-based behavior intervention strategies based on Behavior Outreach Specialists recommendations. Behavior Support Assistants will help with data collection and analysis, communicate with Behavior Outreach Specialists regarding further needs, and ensure that behavior interventions will be practiced with fidelity. Behavior Support Assistants will be a resource for equitable opportunities for students with challenging behaviors. Behavior Support Assistants will work to maintain the interventions with existing supports in the school and will streamline the shift of responsibility to the school staff. Behavior Support Assistants will coordinate with staff and Behavior Specialists/Liaisons to implement and deliver innovative research-based behavior curriculum to select students receiving homebound services.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct support to staff by introducing and modeling research/evidence-based interventions.
  • Provide direct support to students by teaching and modeling research/evidence-based interventions and curriculum.
  • Coordinate with Behavior Specialists/Liaisons and school staff to implement behavior curriculum
  • Provide transition plans and support for students moving from one educational setting to another.
  • Coordinate with Behavior Specialists/Liaisons and school staff to develop effective intervention plans.
  • Coordinate with Behavior Specialists/Liaisons and school staff to develop crisis/safety plans.
  • Provide interventions to enable students to remain in school and/or help stabilize.
  • Deliver behavioral based curriculum to homebound students.
  • Monitor student's attendance and suspension data.

    Travel Requirements

    * Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist
      students.

      • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
      • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
      • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
      • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
      • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others
        contacted in the course of work.

        • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
        • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
          Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

          • Works in standard office and school building environments.
          • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
            Compensation

            Starting Salary: According to State Salary Scale

            Local Supplement: 4%

            Membership in the State Health Plan

            Membership in the State Retirement System

            FLSA Status: Non-exempt

            Qualifications Profile

            • High School diploma or equivalent.
            • Successful completion of 48 hours of transferable college-level coursework as required by Federal regulations.
            • Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
