Scope of Work: This position is a full time Facilities HVAC Technician located at the White Sands Complex (WSC) located in Las Cruces, NM. The White Sands Complex is comprised of two large satellite communications buildings with several ancillary support structures. This position is assigned to the Facilities M&O Department. This position is subject to working rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis as a part of normal shift scheduling. This position is subject to mandatory overtime. The selected candidate, will perform duties at the WSC applying technical knowledge to solve problems that typically can be solved by properly interpreting manufacturer's manuals or similar documents in working with equipment. Responsibilities: - Operate, maintain, repair, install, adjust and troubleshoot all types of air conditioning equipment including controls, SCADA systems and electrical power to such equipment.
- Develop a working knowledge of the functions and operations of the operational equipment, systems and controls at WSC.
- Perform duties consistent with this classification as assigned by management with limited supervision and provide technical guidance to lower-level classifications as required.
- Perform maintenance and repair of chillers, pumps, air handling equipment, package units, cooling towers, VAV systems, and humidification systems.
- Install small refrigeration systems
- Replace compressors, fans, coils etc. on systems up to 150 tons.
- This position may perform tasks working as a member of a team with other classifications providing help and assistance as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned (plumbing, grounds keeping, carpentry activities, etc.) Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma (or equivalent)
- 2 years of applicable experience in the HVAC construction or maintenance field and related civilian or military trade school training or equivalent, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in lieu of a trade school.
- Licensed in Refrigeration or other HVAC based field.
- The ability to pass an initial and periodic physical examination as determined by the physical examination requirements for the Job Classification as follows:
- Respirator and other PPE use
- Can lift up to 35 lbs.
- The manual dexterity and mobility to climb ladders, scaffolds, antennas, and rooftops.
- A current EPA Refrigerant Recovery Card, Class II or higher.
- You may also be required to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License for specific task(s)
- This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. As a federal enclave, membership in the union is required.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, email, and electronic time recording.
- Experience in general maintenance.
- Must maintain licenses and/or credentials required for this position.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Must be able to work independently and interact well with others in a team setting.
- Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an interim secret security clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a fully adjudicated secret security clearance.
- Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.). Outside work in winter, summer, rain, sleet, and snow and on uneven terrain - side hills and slopes.
- Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements of the customer to include weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to perform on-call duties when necessary and report to work within the required timeframe from notification.
- Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions.
- Duties will require frequent periods of bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level, and kneeling. Occasionally require periods of crawling and climbing.
- Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
- Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check. Desired Qualifications:
- Powered Industrial Truck operation (PIT) - Training available
- Mobile Aerial Platform operation (MAP) - Training available
- Experience in construction
