We are actively interviewing for a CNC Machinist who exemplifies our guiding principles to promote the MPI brand.Position Summary Operate manual and CNC equipment in an in-house machine shop producing prototypes to 50 piece runs of parts for final assembly of tabletop packaging systems.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position reports to the Production Manager and receives direction from the Lead Machinist.Set up CNC milling/lathe machines and run parts as needed.Accurately read and understand engineering drawings, CNC programs, and work instructions to ensure proper setup requirements, sequence operations, dimensions, and tolerance levels of finished product.Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work. Inspect own work and perform quality checks to ensure conformance to engineering drawings.Perform hand finishing including deburring, chamfering, sanding, etc. both manually and/or with pneumatic/electric tools as required.Maintain established safety practices and cleanliness of the machining area.Quality control of finished parts and checking against drawings to ensure conformance to specification.Maintain quality tooling by sharpening and replacing worn tools. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Knowledge of CNC set up and operation; read blueprintsKnowledge of machining in a low/medium volume manufacturing settingSelf-starter capable of managing a variety of tasksMust be proficient in first piece inspection, and off-set changesExcellent problem-solving skills and work with tolerances +/- .002Ability to work alone and in a team environmentHigh standard of attention to detail and strong quality control skillsEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma required; Technical School preferred, but not requiredMinimum 2 to 3 years CNC machining experiencePhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a Manufacturing and production/assembly environment and uses shop equipment, power tools and hand tools. Requires standing for long periods of time; occasional sitting; bending; lifting 25 pounds and as much as 75 pounds; frequently perform manual dexterity; exposed to dust, fume, gases, and chemicals.
