Quality Assurance Technician - Howell Michigan

Job PurposeThe Quality Assurance Technician will perform various assignments with direction including, but not limited to, quality audits; developing and maintaining databases; and collecting, analyzing and communicating data of varying complexity to departments across the organization. You help maintain the high-quality standards Koppert' s customers have come to rely on in our products. In addition, the technician will be expected to support the development of methods for monitoring and improving current manufacturing processes.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. - Responsible for performing a variety of routine laboratory operations utilizing basic knowledge of laboratory procedures.
- Complete routine laboratory experiments to test scientific hypotheses relating to improving quality in production processes.
- Perform quick checks on products received upon arrival and provide standard reports of the findings.
- Implement local audits, evaluate and communicate results to direct supervisor/manager.
- Collect, evaluate, and analyze production samples and provide findings/feedback.
- Responsible for accurately recording data and completing required documentation to ensure high quality standards are maintained.
- Conduct weekly sampling of final product to ensure standards are being met.
- Conduct DNA extractions, PCR, dissections, and examinations of beehive samples.
- Perform routine testing for product release and stability studies.
- Perform routine procedures, sample collections, and testing to monitor adherence to environmental, microbiological, or health guidelines.
- Configure and operate basic laboratory instruments.
- Develop standard operating protocols, modify techniques, maintain, and update the written form of this material.
- Maintain document control practices and assist in developing and implementing these processes.
- Use quality tools to identify non-conformances and develop plans for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for clearly communicating results to production personnel.
- Assist other Quality team members in laboratory equipment set-up and testing when needed.
- Maintain the assigned equipment and area in accordance with company standards.
- Performs all related duties as assigned.Skills and Qualifications
- Communicate effectively; both verbally and written in English.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general scientific research and technical procedures. Ability to compose scientific reports, business correspondence, and SOPs. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables; statistical analysis skills are necessary.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).Education and Experience
- BA/BS Degree in biological science from an accredited 4-year college or university; or 3-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and similar experience.
- At least 1-year experience working in a life science/biomedical lab environment using standard equipment.
- Experience conducting husbandry of live animals and/or rearing of insects in a lab setting.Working Conditions
- General office/laboratory/production environment: Works generally at a desk in a well-lit, air-conditioned cubicle/office, with moderate noise levels
- Regular exposure to bumble bees and live insects.
- Frequently exposed to hot or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions.Physical Requirements
