McLaren operates Michigan's largest network of cancer centers and providers, anchored by the Karmanos Cancer Institute, one of only 53 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performing specified skills, such as, but not limited to, acting as the scrub or surgical assist person for cesarean birth. Communicates effectively and reports relevant observations and changes in patient status to responsible Registered Nurse and follows through as directed. Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles equipment, supplies and instruments, according to prescribed procedure. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: - Under the direction of the RN or Obstetrician, assists in maintaining a safe and orderly patient care environment in OB, adhering to established policy by performing items such as, but not limited to,
- transporting of mothers and newborns;
- assisting with ambulation;
- bathing mothers and newborns;
- assisting with peri-care and applying ice to the perineum;
- assisting the new mother with breastfeeding;
- distributing menus, serving meals and retrieving trays;
- cleaning and stocking rooms, including the cesarean room;
- photographing newborns;
- checking crash cart and maintains code alert supplies/cleaning;
- performing specimen collection, according to established procedure; taking specimens to the laboratory. Qualifications: Required:
- High schooldiploma or equivalent
- Completion of aNurse Assistant Certification or equivalent
- CPR issued byAmerican Heart Association or Red Cross Certification Preferred: -
- Minimum of six (6)months recent experience as a Nurse Assistant in an acute care setting
- Graduation froman approved program for OR Technicians or experience as a Surgery Technician
