IU Public Safety directly oversees the IU Police Department , University Environmental Health and Safety , and Emergency Management and Continuity with a team of approximately 300 dedicated staff on a 24/7/365 operational basis across all campuses.Job Summary - Responsible for the management of hazardous materials and other wastes in compliance with federal state, and local regulations including; but not limited to: sound hazardous waste collection, evaluation, and processing utilizing in-depth regulatory knowledge and technical expertise; maintaining records and tracking systems; preparing and submitting required regulatory paperwork and documentation; and providing consultation and guidance to waste generators regarding the regulatory framework within which they must conduct their activities
- Identifies and resolves potential violations, educates violators on corrective actions, establishes schedule for corrections, and conducts follow up investigations as necessary.
- Reviews hazardous waste activities and analyzes proposed regulatory changes/additions to develop/adjust procedures/policies.
- Conducts, documents, and photographs, official inspections/investigations as required by state and local code.
- Responds to health/sanitation inquiries and complaints from the general public, faculty, staff, students, and/or visitors, and provides related technical advice, including but not limited to, providing information, referrals, and/or assistance as appropriate.
- Participates in responses to hazardous materials incidents on campus to minimize exposures or injuries, property damage, environmental contamination, or migration of contaminants to land or water.QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. - Bachelor's degree in environmental science, physical sciences, life sciences, applied health, or related fieldWORK EXPERIENCERequired
- 2 years of environmental health and safety or related experienceLICENSES AND CERTIFICATESRequired

The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections.
