All Student Life Marketing staff will contribute to the creation, implementation, and assessment of various marketing and communications initiatives. A job with Student Life Marketing will teach students well beyond their role on the team: leadership, communication, problem-solving, and time management. This job complements learning in the classroom and prepares students for their careers after graduation. Employees will demonstrate tangible results gained while working at Student Life Marketing through the creation of a portfolio. Job SummaryThe Copywriter writes, edits, and proofreads various types of copy for, but not limited to, design and print campaigns, websites, signage, social media captions, closed captions on videos, and ad brochures.Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops effective writing based on the goals of a project, audience, and other factors in a timely manner. Uses the appropriate tone and word choice.
  • Develops copy for various platforms (websites, social media, advertising, calendars, etc.)
  • Reviews and rewrites copy on a number of different platforms to ensure writing is more effective, brief when necessary, and without mistakes (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.)
  • Double-checks copy on projects before they are launched.
  • Collaborates with graphic designers to effectively blend copy and design into effective marketing and communications.
  • Writes and sets up email newsletters within the platform.
  • Writes longer-form articles and blog posts.
  • Works in collaboration with graphic designers, photographers, videographers, social media coordinators, and campus partners to create these necessary campaigns.
  • Works closely with various members of the marketing team and professional staff/clients from around the Office of Student Life. Members of Student Life Marketing.
  • Participates in various meetings, workshops, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary. QualificationsEDUCATIONRequired
    • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana UniversitySKILLSRequired
      • Proficient writer, editor, and proofreader: Experience writing some combination of articles, blog posts, and/or ad copy
      • Understands and uses proper grammar and punctuation rules
      • Fine attention to detail
      • Professionalism, dependability, and respect for others
      • Exceptional decision-making skills and autonomy
      • Exceptional written and communication skills
      • Performs well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere
      • Strong sense of curiosity and creativity

        • Understanding of effective marketing tactics
        • Extensive experience writing/editing on various platforms

The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
