Job Title Machine BuilderDepartment Assembly/Machining DepartmentReports to Manufacturing ManagerFLSA Status Non-Exempt Customary Workdays M-F w/ Occasional WeekendsCustomary Work Hours 40 hours/week with some overtime for travel or while at customer site Position SummaryWhile reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager, the Mechanical Machine Builder will plan, organize, and execute all phases of a machine build. The Mechanical Machine Builder will work with the engineering team as well as Project Managers to ensure all pieces and components are correctly built in order to optimize system performance. Key Functions & ResponsibilitiesOrganize, plan, and execute all phases of machine build Assemble, debug, modify, and install custom designed special purpose machineryIntegrate purchased mechanical components, manufactured details and sub-assemblies to construct automated machinery for custom applicationsPerform critical precision alignments and set-ups of mechanical components and systems and take measures to ensure integrity of set-upInstall pneumatic components and sub-systems as per supplied schematics and specifications, plumbing, testing and optimizing system performance for cycle time and equipment durability concernsIdentify any technical issues with supplied materials, components and equipmentIdentify and correct mechanical deficiencies in the build and accurately document as-built changesWork with engineering, electrical, and controls departments to see jobs through to completionParticipate in equipment tear down and packaging at initial assembly site and reassemble and test at customer site as requiredIdentify all tools, fasteners, miscellaneous items and equipment required to complete tasks efficiently and work with Project Manager to secure all required material in a timely mannerLead machine debug effortAdhere to company's safety policies to create a safe work environment for employeesCompetenciesJourneyman tenure or related experience as toolmaker/machine builderDemonstrated experience in building equipment utilizing the following technologies: robotic systems, high speed index transfer (dial, indexing chain, walking beam etc.), pneumatic actuators, servo motors and actuators, hydraulics, power transmissionFamiliar with modern electrical controls technologies as they apply to automated equipment (e.g. PLC's, HMI's, safety devices, and instrumentation)Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills as applied to machinery and equipmentCapable of using milling machine, lathe, surface grinderAbility to weld common metals (MIG/TIG) encountered in machine building a plusSkilled in the use of rigging equipment including cranes and forkliftsKnowledgeable of Machinery Safeguarding Principles and Standards as it applies to production work cells - ability to identify shortcomings or deficiencies and correctGood working knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic control circuitsAbility to work overtime as requiredAssist with equipment installation and start-up at customer sites on occasionProven ability to perform under strict time constraints; flexibility and adaptability to work long hours or alternate shifts when project schedules dictate Physical DemandsFrequently lift up to 50-75 poundsRoutinely carry tool bag to work stationFrequently stand for long periods of time; frequently required to walkConsistently bend, stoop, reach, twist, crawl under/over, push/pullRoutinely climb on ladders and work in tight spaces EducationRequiredHigh School Diploma or equivalent ExperienceRequired5+ years' experience in machine building preferably automotive related with experience in a high speed manufacturing environment a plus Equal Opportunity EmployerCapital Industries is an equal opportunity employer.
