The Department of Community and Behavioral Health Sciences through the Institute of Public and Preventive Health (IPPH) at Augusta University seeks an outstanding faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor interested in developing an academic career within a growing, dynamic research institute. This position is full time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, and on tenure track. The selected candidate should have a successful track record of peer-reviewed publications, and a history of extramural funding (or, for junior faculty, demonstrate the potential to become an independent extramurally funded investigator). In addition, the applicant must show evidence of potential for effective teaching.

In addition to a faculty appointment with the Institute of Public and Preventive Health, the selected candidate will have a faculty appointment, commensurate with experience, within an academic department in one of Augusta University's nine colleges and schools.

Successful candidates will be pursuing a vigorous, extramurally-funded research program in areas of research that complement the Institute's and University's existing strengths including:

  • health policy, health systems, or health services research
  • behavioral health (including substance use, and substance use disorders)
  • rural health, or health disparities research
  • Cancer and other chronic disease prevention
  • Correctional Health
  • Child and adolescent health
    Responsibilities

    Research 75% - Seek external funds, exhibit potential to sustain a funded research program, publish in top-tier peer-reviewed journals relevant to Public Health science and/or practice, present at professional meetings, and mentor student research.

    Teaching 20% - Teach 1 to 2 courses per year within the MPH program or the individual's academic department, advise graduate students, and participate in the Institute's established summer scholars program.

    Service 5% - Provide service to the Institute, academic department, College, and University through participation in faculty meetings and/or committee service. Provide service to the profession through involvement in professional organizations, serving as a reviewer of manuscripts journals, or peer-review panel for grant applications.

    Required Qualifications

    Applicants must have earned a Doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Health Services Research, Health Economics, Social Science or a related public health discipline, from an accredited college or university. The applicant should have a successful track record of peer-reviewed publications, and a history of extramural funding (or, for junior faculty, demonstrate the potential to become an independent extramurally funded investigator). In addition, the applicant must show evidence of potential for effective teaching.

    Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

    Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

    Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

    Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

    Evidence of ability as a teacher;

    Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

    Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

    Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

    The mission of the IPPH is to improve health, reduce health disparities, and prevent injury and illness in Georgia through research, service, leadership, and training. Founded in 2012, IPPH currently has 10 primary faculty, 13 affiliated faculty, and 14 research and administrative grant support staff.

    Extramural funding exceeds $9 million per year. IPPH is home to the Center for Rural Health, and the Center for Bioethics and Health Policy (CBHP). Over the next 5 years, our goal is to double the number of faculty in support of our mission and strategic development.
