Airgas Dry Ice, the largest producer of Dry Ice in North America, has a unique opportunity for a Vice President of LEAN Transformation & Business Process Improvement to join our team. In this role you will transform our operations by building on our culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence and instituting processes, procedures, and new technology to eliminate waste, gain efficiencies, and deliver an ever-evolving and improving customer experience. This is done by putting the right people, processes, and procedures in place to support the strategic direction and initiatives of this coast to coast organization.
Through your leadership, we will establish and execute initiatives for improving:

  • Quality Control and reduction/elimination of defects, product inconsistencies, and contamination potential. (Defects QC/QA)
  • Reduction of raw material losses in the manufacturing process of finished goods (Over-production, Over-processing & Inventory Management)
  • Reduction of material handling losses in the value chain from finished goods production to the point of sale (Waiting, Transportation, & Motion) -["Scrap & Shrink"]
  • Value Stream Mapping (VSM) & streamlining of process flows and optimized/efficient output.
  • Total productive Maintenance (TPM) & ensuring that the equipment we use to manufacture, package, and transport our products is operating at the highest levels of efficiency, effectiveness, and output as possible.
  • Design, Engineering & Implementation of new manufacturing & packaging technology
  • Visual Factory Management & 5S


    Critical Responsibilities also include:
    • Direct the execution of our Investment Strategy to institute new production and finishing technologies into our manufacturing environment
    • Execution of capital improvement projects to ensure they are designed, engineered, organized, submitted/presented for approval, and implemented on time and at/under budget
    • Management of our carbon emissions reduction initiatives and reporting (ESG)
    • Development of measurements, metrics, goals, and tools to track and improve On-time/in-full fulfillment of each customer order
    • Streamline back-office processes for PO & Invoice processing, data management and organization, and reduction of administrative waste.
    • All of these are critical areas for this key position in the organization.
    • The VP will interface with the leadership team and key department leaders to apply LEAN systems and principles of operating across the business comprised of 56 retail and distribution locations and 15 manufacturing facilities that service clients in both B2C and B2B environments. He/she will work to build a cohesive inter-departmental dynamic with the Distribution Production, Safety & Compliance, Finance, Sales, and Human Resources departments.


      What will I be doing?
      • Reporting to the Company President, this VP will function as a key member of the Company's Leadership Team.
      • The VP will partner with the VP-Distribution Operations, VP- Manufacturing Operations, and the VP-Finance (and the other members of the team) to help determine how to consistently increase revenues, improve profitability, increase customer satisfaction, and drive stability across the distribution platform.
      • He/she must function as a true leader and team builder. The VP will be held accountable for building a productive & cohesive teamwork environment between departments that grows through a heavy focus on continuous process improvement, efficient resource utilization, and constructive communication to help the company meet its safety and efficiency deliverables.
      • The VP will oversee all aspects of operational, budgetary and personnel management to meet the objectives and deliverables outlines above.
      • The VP will have direct supervisory responsibility over:
        • Director -Quality Control (1)
        • Project Execution Team (3 PMs)
        • Regional Operations Coordinators (2)
        • Mechanical Engineer (1)
        • Maintenance & Reliability Managers (2)
        • This role will serve as a resource to help build, maintain, and continuously improve the data collection, analysis, and pursuit of continuous improvement of technology utilization, asset control, expense discipline, process and procedural adherence, and overall financial health of the company and its assets.
        • He/she will have direct responsibility for analyzing and controlling costs, increasing profitability, and enabling growth through partnerships with other departments and our vendor and customer network.
        • A key component of the VP's responsibilities will be analyzing all production and distribution data to draw conclusions that are actionable for making adjustments to serve our customer's needs while simultaneously improving efficiencies and lowering operating costs.
        • This position will have direct control over the technological transformation to modernize our finished goods production lines and automate systems in our manufacturing facilities and will oversee the planning execution of our strategic investment plan over the next 5-10 years.
        • The VP will oversee the implementation and execution of all relevant policies and practices, communicating clearly defined objectives to team members, and driving acceptance and adoption of those objectives. He/she will implement existing processes to meet established goals while seeking opportunities for improvement. He/she must establish strong relationships internally and externally in order to understand, implement and streamline all processes and procedures.

          What are we looking for?
          • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain or related field.
          • 10-12 years of recent experience in the Last-Mile service industry. The majority of this experience must include leading a team in multiple sites across North America with a heavy customer touch as well as managing freight and logistics across the country.
          • Extensive and recent experience required in managing a fast-paced and just-in-time manufacturing and distribution environment.
          • Track record for driving excellence in Continuous Improvement via LEAN Systems Management and/or Six Sigma with corresponding certification(s)
          • Proven leadership skills are critical to this role. The ideal candidate will have extensive and proven expertise in successfully inspiring, building and maintaining a team and blending cultures. He/she must be an expert in effective written and verbal communication, organization, presentation, leadership, coaching, problem solving, and negotiation.
          • He/she must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. He/she needs to be able to effectively interpret technical data in text (in mathematical or diagram form) and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
          • Strong aptitude and understanding of business and financial principles is required. A high level of independence and the ability to make decisions that are supported by sound business practices are must-have skill sets to be successful in this role.
          • The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to think "outside of the box" and to grasp new concepts quickly. He/she must have the knowledge, as well as the instincts, to effectively build improvements into an organization. Problem analysis and problem resolution at both the strategic and functional levels are critical.
          • It will be necessary that he/she exhibit excellent organizational skills, along with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously must have recent experience managing an organization of significant size both in terms of employee headcount and fleet assets.
          • The candidate must be high energy, self-confident and self-motivated team player who can communicate with, and relate to, people at all levels within the organization. He/she must possess the ability to work independently, present a positive image, and possess a high level of integrity.
          • Knowledge of current and new technologies, tools, methodologies and industry trends, and experience driving employee training and development initiatives is required.
          • Must exhibit a high level of enthusiasm, with a "hands-on style" and a strong work ethic with the capability to adapt to the rapidly changing environment of this fast-paced, service-oriented company.
          • Regulatory and environmental experience is a plus, as is management in a union environment.
          • Extensive experience with Peoplesoft, GeoTab, Lytx, SAP, Canvas, and other related software in and emerging in today's Manufacturing environment and in Class-A, Class-B, and Heavy Freight and Logistics spaces. The right candidate will also possess an active willingness and an aptitude for researching, evaluating, choosing, and learning new systems and tools to help us evolve to meet the challenges our organization, our industry and our clients face now, and in the future.
          • Strong technical abilities and a working knowledge of Google Suite are also vital to this role.
          • Must be open to travel on a national basis (-50% expectation).
