A $1 shift differential will be added to the posted pay range for 2nd shift. The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Machine Operator / Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) Inspector are described below: Summary Responsible for setup and operation of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) machine and for inspecting PCB parts and assemblies to applicable IPC and/or J-STD workmanship standards, in addition to internal quality standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the SMT Machine Operator / AOI Inspector - Actively participates in quality initiatives by participating in problem solving, process improvements and performance measurements.
- Responsible for understanding & following company, and or manufacturing guidelines/procedures
- Responsible for product quality as defined by internal and external customers, work instructions, specifications and procedures.
- Responsible for following established safety rules & 6S
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary SMT Machine Operator
- Proficiency in setup and operation of Surface Mount Technology equipment while achieving goals for quality, efficiency, and productivity.
- Create basic Stencil Printer programs
- Monitor the operation of equipment to ensure that assemblies are built to print and in compliance with applicable workmanship standards.
- Inspect printed solder paste and component alignment for accuracy.
- Understand and identify defects
- Perform daily machine maintenance activities for assigned production equipment as specified on the Preventive Maintenance schedules.
- Perform manual placement of SMT and PTH components.
- Load feeders for equipment and wash boards as needed.
- Read, interpret, follow, and meet the expectations of the SMT Machine Schedule AOI Inspector
- Review AOI inspection for accurate, consistent detection of SMT paste, component placement and solder joint defects.
- Load programs per documentation.
- Using magnification aids and stereo-microscopes, inspect populated printed circuit boards and identify component misplacement and solder defects to IPC-A-610 standards.
- Recognize problems in the operation process or with components and communicate those problems to machine operator for immediate correction.
- Conduct in process and final inspections on PCB assemblies, subassemblies, and finished products
- Ensure that the product conforms to work instructions, IPC or J-STD standards, and internal quality/workmanship standards
- Identify and segregate nonconforming materials
- Complete daily inspection report denoting the acceptance and/or rejection rate all items in accordance with the standards defined within job traveler
- Supports supervisors and/or operators in the resolution of quality problems Knowledge and Skill Requirements of the SMT Machine Operator / AOI Inspector
- Ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical problems
- Basic component identification skills
- Strong communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to read & understand assembly documentation
- Good eyesight and hand coordination
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Demonstration of understanding of routine aspects of work
- Attention to detail Education and/or Experience
- Previous soldering experience or training is a plus
- J-Std certification a plus
- IPC-A-610 certification required, or successful completion of certification program per an agreed upon timeline.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED or other equivalent experience
