Arete is on the lookout for an Optical Engineer, Laser. This role is crucial in the design and construction of solid-state and fiber laser systems. The responsibilities involve modeling and simulating laser performance, orchestrating measurements and diagnostics, and gathering critical performance data. This role also demands the analysis of experimental data to validate system performance theories. A significant part of the job includes conducting research and development in lasers and electro-optical systems. The Optical Engineer will be expected to develop and document diagnostics and processes for laser system evaluation and fabrication, and to develop component specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures. This position is vital as a principal investigator for DoD research and development projects and requires the submission of technical proposals for these programs. This position is based in our Niwot, CO office and may require some travel to other program sites, as needed. This is an exempt non-supervisory full-time position. Primary responsibilities: - Drives technical research for laser and sensor development programs.
- Manages proposals for pursuits of new science and technology business.
- Prepares calculations, models, and simulations to predict solid state laser system performance.
- Analyzes collected experimental data to assess laser system performance.
- Develops laser and optical system specifications.
- Works with manufacturing and engineering staff to support design.
- Assembles, aligns, and tests lasers and optical system systems.
- Documents designs, procedures, and performance
- Designs optical fixturing and tests to support laser alignment, construction, and performance verification.
- Inspects optical component and systems.
- Prepares and presents technical briefings.

- PhD or MS+5 years in one of the following areas: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering.
- Proficient theoretical understanding of laser physics and design approaches
- Demonstrated capability in hardware build and test
