Job Summary

The Occupational Medicine Coordinator (OMC) is a multi-skilled professional who works interdependently with other health care professionals to coordinate the delivery of quality health care to the patient. The OMC is able to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical environment for the efficient and effective day to day functions of the clinic.

Reports to: Physician Supervisor, Director of Outpatient Services

Essential Job Functions

  • Facilitate the coordination of care between the patient, the healthcare team, the employer and the worker's compensation carrier.
  • Answering phones and scheduling appointments including "reminder" phone calls for next day patients and follow up patients
  • Greets patients, completes registration forms and give instruction if needed
    • ensure collection of insurance information and co pays
    • ensures accuracy of patient demographics
    • Scanning and maintaining of medical records
      • preparing new charts or pulling existing charts in advance for scheduled visits
      • maintain medical record
        • scanning of labs, DI exams, notes, referrals, transcription, etc
        • Communication and compliance with Colorado State Division of Worker's Compensation guidelines.
        • Filing and maintaining worker's compensation paperwork
          • follow up with appropriate paperwork to WC carrier
          • ensure proper codes and documentation is supplied by physician
          • Perform general office functions
            • making copies, ordering office supplies
            • arranging for equipment servicing or repairs
            • Arranging for outside referrals and coordination of care
              • DI exams
              • Laboratory exams
              • referrals to specialists - including follow up
              • other referral services that maybe required
              • Impairment Rating
              • Insurance Authorizations
              • Calling in prescriptions and refills and appropriately documenting such Clinical Functions
              • Able to function in the absence of the Medical Assistant
                • Placing patients in room and discharging
                • Able to measure and record vital signs, including EKGs
                • Able to fill out lab requisitions and track results
                • Practice OSHA safety standards
                • Other clinic duties that maybe assigned
                • Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
                  • Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
                  • Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
                  • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment. Adheres to the hospital's Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct in the HR Manual.
                  • Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.
                  • Follows through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command.
                  • Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
                  • Other duties that may be assigned

                    Minimum Requirements

                    Education: High school Graduate, Bachelors degree preferred

                    Certification, Licensure: Current CPR certification.

                    Experience, Knowledge and Training: Managerial skills or past experience demonstrating progressive leadership roles. One (1) year recent experience with workman's compensation or physician practice setting helpful

                    Physical Requirements

                    This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to ten (10)+ pounds. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, handling, and balancing 5 or more hours per day. Sensory and communicative activities including: hearing seeing, and speaking to be able to carry out essential job functions.

                    Salary Range: $19.50-$30.44

                    Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

                    Exposure to environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infections/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts.
