Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year experience in an acute care hospital, sterile processing, or surgery department or completion of a program for sterile processing/central supply technicianPreferred Qualifications
- Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution - PREFERREDEssential Functions
- CommunicationReport any malfunctions or questionable loads to the Lead Technician or SupervisorProvide appropriate information to facilitate receipt of MSDSMaintain necessary verbal communication via clear shift reports and communication logsObtain approval from resource/charge nurse to process incomplete sets
- Department CompetencyConsistently demonstrate competency as identified in ongoing assessments and evaluationsImplement and adapt comprehensive, age/culturally appropriate plans using patient care interventions with patient and family
- DocumentationDocument sterilizer load contents and apply load labels to itemsUse charts and printouts to track sterilizer loads, including biological and vacuum testingDocument results and actions of biologic and vacuum testingAssure accurate labeling of instruments/sets
- Instrument ProcessingDisassemble multipart instrumentsSeparate heavy and delicate instrumentsProperly care for powered, lensed, and special instruments/equipmentInspect instruments and trays for broken, damaged or missing instrumentsReassemble trays, protecting sharp/delicate/heavy instruments, and check for cleanlinessLabel trays according to type, includes count sheets with trays
- SuppliesRestock carts as assignedPrepare case carts for surgery according to preference cards as assignedRequest/order sterilization supplies, including charts, testing materials, wraps, case filters/locks, and tape before supply outages occur
- Time and Resource ManagementAnticipate surgical needs and prepare instrumentation accordinglyWilling to accept additional assignments and remain flexible with work practicesComplete delegated duties within reasonable timeframesKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
