RESPONSIBILITIES: The prime responsibility of the CNA is to provide direct care and supervision for each consumer. The CNA practices under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), and the Psychiatric Technician (PT). This job classification has been identified as having a risk for acquiring an occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, masks/face shields should be worn when exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials is anticipated. Clinical judgment should be exercised when deciding what type of protective equipment to wear. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 1. This position is a mandated reporter, and is expected to observe all consumers rights, report unusual occurrences and suspected dependent adult abuse, as specified in Title 22, California Code of Regulations. 2. The CNA staff is awake while on duty. 3. Maintains confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA. 4. Performs nursing procedures consistent with CNA/DSP Regulations, such as taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations and first aid. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment. 5. Provides supports to ensure all basic needs, i.e., grooming, hygiene, provision of hydration and nutrition are met in a timely skilled and thorough manner. CNA does not handle or administer any medications. 6. Performs routine tasks i.e., meals and snack preparation, laundry and maintaining general cleanliness of the home environment. 7. Evaluates each consumer's status to ensure that all needs are met consistently. 8. Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team. Implements the Individual Program Plan and Interdisciplinary Healthcare Plan. 9. Will work with consumers in activities that provide opportunities for learning and practice of skills tailored to specific needs of the individual. 10. Documents consumer status and progress with skill development. 11. Observes and documents consumers' physical condition and behavior, and reports significant or negative changes to the licensed staff (RN, LVN, LPT) or the RN Administrator immediately. 12. Provides safe, quality care and supports the quality assurance program. 13. Observes and intervenes if an individual's behavior indicates imminent potential to injure her/himself, others, or property. 14. Assists staff in occupational, recreational, vocational, and educational therapy programs for consumers. 15. Maintains a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment which promotes respect and dignity for consumers and protects the privacy, rights confidentiality, and physical/emotional well-being of consumers. 16. Responds to emergencies that involve use of medical/behavioral intervention techniques. Initiates CPR, calls 911 for assistance and provides first aid as needed. 17. Works extended hours and/or varying shifts, as needed. Works at various homes, operated by the LSA organization, within Santa Clara County, as needed to meet staffing requirements. 18. Attends and participates in training as required. 19. Other duties as directed.
