How you make a difference The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for Department of State Hospitals (DSH) is responsible for assisting and collecting patient data in the delivery of care in the Correctional Setting.This includes administering medication, taking vitals, conducting chart reviews, and working closely with the psychiatric prescriber on the care and treatment of Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) patients. The LVN alsofacilitatestele-psychiatry appointments andprovidescompetency restoration services to IST patients in both group and individual formats. Key Responsibilities -
Assistsin the assessment and data collection of patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions in the correctional setting and plans individual treatment plans with available resources. -
Providesrestoration of competency services to Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) patients in both group and individual formats, as well ascount controlledsubstances, syringes, needles, and sharps. -
Implements medical plans, administers medications, and obtains diagnostic testsin accordance withHealth Care Practitioner's orders and protocols while ensuring proper techniques and procedures are followed. -
Assists the Health Care Practitioner in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary and documents nursing encounters using the SOAPE form of charting asrequired. -
Communicates patient information to nursing staff, physician, health care unit supervisory personnel, and other staff as necessary and ensures that policies, procedures, and guidelines for practice areestablishedto guide their practice. Qualifications & Requirements Education - Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Experience - One (1) or more years clinic experience preferred
