Position description The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego invites applications for a full-time Researcher position to be funded by extramural research grants and contracts in the area of Geodesy. We seek outstanding candidates with expertise in areas including marine and/or terrestrial geodesy, satellite geodesy, seafloor positioning, reference frames, processing and analysis of geodetic positions (e.g., GNSS, InSAR), modeling geophysical processes, time series analysis and data science (e.g., machine learning). The successful candidate will be distinguished by a deep understanding of geodetic methods and applications. The Researcher series at Scripps Oceanography parallels the Professor series in terms of research and service, but it carries no teaching requirements. Researchers receive eleven-month appointments with 25% salary support from institutional sources but are expected to establish an externally funded research program that provides the remainder of their salary support. Researchers at Scripps often obtain educator appointments as well and serve as graduate student and postdoc advisors. We seek motivated research geodesists to take advantage of new funding opportunities to expand the pool of geodesists in the U.S. through innovative research and mentoring students and postdocs and supporting a new geodesy track within the existing geophysical curriculum. The candidate's research program will complement and possibly overlap other research efforts at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics such as the Seafloor Geodesy Equipment Pool, the Scripps Orbit and Permanent Array Center (SOPAC), and the Satellite Geodesy group. Initial funding may be available from grants already awarded to these groups. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated excellence in research and service, and who are committed toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. A competitive record of publication, as well as evidence of the ability to conduct and fund an active research program consistent with the appointment level, is required. Candidates will be considered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Researcher levels. The ranks of Associate and Full level are expected to have a record of securing extramural funding. Rank and salary will be consistent with the applicant's qualifications, experience, and University of California pay scales. Scripps Institution of Oceanography is a world-renowned center of solid Earth, planetary, oceanographic, biological, and atmospheric research committed to academic excellence and diversity within its student body, staff, and approximately 200 principal investigators (https://scripps.ucsd.edu/diversity). School: http://scripps.ucsd.edu Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates are required to hold a Ph.D. in an area of Earth and Ocean Science, Physics, Engineering, or other related field, preferably with a record of geodetic-related research experience. Must have a record of publication commensurate with the level of appointment. Must have evidence of the ability to conduct and fund an active research program consistent with the appointment level. Preferred qualifications Candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in research and service, and who are committed to building an equitable and diverse university environment. Candidates will be considered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Researcher levels. A record of publication and service commensurate with the level of appointment is required.
