CLASSIFIED: position is subject to the provisions of the Merit System Rules pursuant to Arizona Law

RATE OF PAY: $40,000 - $45,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.

FACILITIES/MAINTENANCE WORKER III

NATURE OF WORK: Under limited supervision performs senior level work of considerable difficulty in the maintenance and repair of a physical plant complex that includes all utilities, with an emphasis on complex HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical, as well as building maintenance and repair. Utilizes carpentry and construction skills. Performs related work and supervises a work crew or crews as required or assigned.

Inspect facilities, buildings, and systems; establish preventative maintenance schedules; perform predictive maintenance; estimate time, labor and materials needed for jobs; compile reports; operate and maintain equipment. May supervise workers engaged in grounds and/or maintenance work.

Minimum Qualifications

FACILITIES/MAINTENANCE WORKER III

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) years of senior level experience in either: Building Maintenance, with a strong background in Utility Systems maintenance and repair; or any one or more of the following construction fields if expressed in a recruitment announcement: Building Maintenance; Construction; Electrical Systems; HVAC; Plumbing; Utility Systems; plus one (1) year in a supervisory capacity if required; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and and the ability to be covered by county insurance.
FACILITIES/MAINTENANCE WORKER II

Three (3) years of experience in general maintenance; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and the ability to be covered by county insurance.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.

FACILITIES/MAINTENANCE WORKER III

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of:

  • methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of trades;
  • occupational hazards, required preventative measures and maintaining a safe work environment;
  • principles and practices of supervision. Considerable skill in:
    • the use of equipment and tools used in the building trades. Ability to:
      • follow written and verbal instruction;
      • read, write and speak English;
      • understand and perform work from blueprints, sketches and penciled layouts;
      • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public;
      • prepare and present accurate written and oral reports;
      • communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
      • maintain tool accountability in a secure environment;
      • maintain inventories necessary to complete preventive maintenance on equipment and repair such in a timely manner;
      • operate an assigned vehicle to travel to other facilities to perform work duties;
      • work outside in varying weather conditions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision and in a variety of climatic conditions. May include confined spaces. Requires travel and may include working early morning shifts

        PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: manual dexterity, fine motor skills, ability to communicate, lifting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, stooping, turning/twisting, balancing, reaching and handling with varying frequencies.

        Heavy work: Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds, Frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10-20 pounds.

        Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are important
