A Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, critical care to critically ill or injured pediatric patients. PICU RNs are highly skilled in managing complex medical conditions, including acute respiratory distress, traumatic injuries, post-surgical care, and life-threatening illnesses. They work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver advanced, patient-centered care and ensure optimal outcomes for critically ill children. Key Responsibilities : - Provide intensive, specialized care to pediatric patients with life-threatening conditions, including respiratory failure, organ failure, and postoperative complications.
- Monitor and assess patients' critical conditions, including vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and respiratory status, using advanced monitoring equipment.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions specific to critically ill pediatric patients, including mechanical ventilation, IV therapies, and pain management.
- Collaborate with intensivists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, central line placement, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on complex medical conditions, treatment plans, and strategies for care at home.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families coping with acute and life-threatening illnesses.
- Maintain accurate, thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes, adhering to clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and respond to complications, such as respiratory distress, sepsis, and hemodynamic instability, ensuring timely interventions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, clinical meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
- Provide family-centered care, supporting parents and caregivers in navigating their child's critical health needs. Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.

- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
