Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility during an assigned shift, including the monitoring of boilers and other plant systems. The Shift Supervisor will routinely tour the plant, oversee personnel, and ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental limits, and permits.Key Responsibilities: - Maintain a safe working environment for all personnel by enforcing policies and procedures and ensuring safe work practices.
- Approve requests for equipment removal from service, ensure proper tagging, and issue safety permits according to plant procedures.
- Ensure compliance with environmental limits and permits.
- Respond to emergencies such as injuries or accidents.
- Direct and complete shift, daily, weekly, and monthly checks.
- Maximize operational performance and troubleshoot plant operational issues.
- Manage and train a motivated, cross-trained workforce.
- Provide technical training and development for personnel.
- Maintain administrative records on personnel.
- Direct personnel to address housekeeping issues.Qualifications:
- 5 or more years of experience in power or resource recovery plant operations, preferred.
- Hands-on experience with high-pressure boilers, electrical generation, and formal technical training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an ASME QRO Provisional license and a Site-Specific Operators license.
- Detailed knowledge of steam-generating power stations and instrument and control systems.
- Ability to develop and monitor plant procedures and technical instructions.Physical Demands:
- Ability to tolerate frequent standing, walking, crouching, crawling, and kneeling.
- Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Frequently lifts or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves up to 50 pounds.
- Position requires working near and around operating mechanical parts and mobile equipment and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations.
- Capable of wearing personal protective equipment, such as hearing protectors and respirators, as necessary.Shift Work:
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Rotating on a 5-2-2-5 schedule.What Covanta Offers You:
