JOB SUMMARYThis position is primarily responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing metal structures and components in accordance with blueprints and specifications. Duties include cutting, fitting, and welding metal parts, inspecting for quality, and coordinating with welders and other trades to ensure the structural integrity of the project.PAY RANGE *Pay is determined by Test Classification Results **HR will contact qualified applicants to schedule on-site weld test.WORK SCHEDULERegular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees. Varies by Department and/or Location.Day Shift: 6:00am - 3:30pmNight Shift: 3:30pm - 12:00am (Midnight)Overtime and/or Weekend Availability required.Channelview Location. - Career Path Opportunities RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibilities are to perform structural fitting functions with following objectives:
- Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
- Work safe and maintain a safe working environment.
- Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues as warranted.
- Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman/Supervisor.
- Required to move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc.
- May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and/or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces.
- May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary.
- Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installation
- Attend safety meetings as required
- Maintain a safe working environment EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
- Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)
- Be able to perform simple paper work as required for filling out forms and logs.
- Must have good judgment skills and work initiative, taking good directions from Supervisor/Manager.
- Understanding of company Quality, Environmental & Safety manual and procedures described therein.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have good communication skills and leadership ability, English & Spanish (Bi-lingual required). PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTSThe employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.
