Description Seeking an experienced LAN Network Engineer to support the NASA Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO) Network and Telecommunications Services (NaTS) under the Advanced Enterprise Global Information Technology (IT) Solutions (AEGIS) contract. This job requires working closely with key NASA program customers, managers, leaders, and technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on implementing Cisco's Software Defined Access (SDA) architecture across NASA's corporate network agency-wide. Primary Responsibilities: - Perform a variety of complex network engineering tasks independently which are broad in nature and are concerned with the design and implementation of integrated networks, including personnel, hardware, software, and support facilities and/or equipment.
- Lead major technical/engineering network activities of higher complexity and importance than those normally assigned to junior engineers.
- Plan and perform network-engineering research, design development, and other assignments in conformance with network design, engineering and customer specifications.
- Responsible for completion of assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines. Able to lead a group of network engineers, analyst, and/or technicians assigned for the duration of a project or may function as ongoing lead within a group associated with one of more technical areas.Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of the Cisco SDA architecture to include familiarity with fabric components, node roles, overlay technologies like VXLAN and EVPN, and integration with wireless networks.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst switches, configuring and managing Cisco Catalyst switches, especially those supporting SDA is highly beneficial.
- Strong understanding of traditional Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking technologies to include switching, routing, TCP/IP, ARP, DHCP, DNS, and security protocols like IPSec.
- Knowledge of VLANs, multicast, and network policy segmentation.
- Strong understanding of centralized concept control, programmability, and network abstraction.
- Understanding of Cisco automation tools such as Cisco DNA Center and Catalyst.
- Knowledge of scripting languages like Python.
- Knowledge of Cisco's network automation APIs for advanced configuration and integration.
- Cisco DNA Center and Catalyst Center knowledge for SDA fabric discovery, provisioning, policy configuration.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to analyze network behavior, identify root causes of issues, and implement effective solutions.Basic Qualifications:
