Job Title: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Cardiac rhythm interpretation. - IV starts. - Blood product administration. - CIWA management. - Drain/tube management. - Indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management. - Insulin drips (both DKA and non-DKA). - Continuous bladder irrigation. - Chest tube maintenance. Description: The Progressive Care Unit has 56 beds. Patient types include adults with a variety of diagnoses such as CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM, DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremors. The RN to patient ratio is 1:4 during both days and nights. The staffing model includes an RN paired with an LPN, both taking their own patient loads. Task swapping may occur due to scope of practice considerations. Required skills include thorough physical assessments, strong clinical judgment, and effective verbal and written communication. A positive attitude and strong team player mentality are essential. Flexibility to float to other inpatient adult units is necessary, depending on experience. Travelers must live a significant distance away from the facility. All staff must attend a huddle before their shift starts. Monthly audits for compliance with pain scoring standards are conducted.
