Administer the deployment, support, and maintenance of districtwide database systems. Coordinate the use of database systems. Responsible for data integration and account management of cloud-based applications and systems as well as monitoring the collection, verification and validation of student data. The database specialist provides data analysis to support various data needs to support student achievement, attendance, discipline and graduation rates. Provides training and support to end-users of the Student Information System as well as other District enterprise applications. Provides direct technical support to faculty, staff, and students, as needed.

Education and Work Experience
--- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience with emphasis in database.
--- Training in computer programming, systems analysis/design and/or management.

Technical Experience
--- Comprehensive understanding of relational database theory and management systems.
--- Extensive experience administering, reporting, and querying databases.
--- Knowledge of MS SQL Server performance tuning and server monitoring utilities.
--- Application of best practices to database design and maintenance.
--- Working knowledge of relational database management tools.
--- Ability to use custom reporting tools.
--- Ability to work with scripts, APIs, and data importing/exporting to synchronize information between applications.
--- Experience with SQL and report writing tools.
--- Experience working with XML, CSV, tag delimited and/or other data exchange formats.
--- Knowledge of advanced features of Microsoft Excel.
--- Knowledge of data warehouse and data management methodologies.
--- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
--- Microsoft operating systems and applications
--- Chrome and Firefox web browsers
--- Google Apps for Education
--- Knowledge of education record keeping practices
--- Knowledge of single sign-on tools and technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
--- Manage districtwide database systems.
--- Code, revise and maintain custom coded programs and applications to meet the specific needs of the District.
--- Coordinate and execute regular synchronization of information between multiple applications and databases using APIs, scripts, or imports and exports. Integrate different database systems with an eye toward efficiency and practicality.
--- Configure custom reports, exports, imports, batch changes and queries to maintain data quality and in response to department requests.
--- Maintain database integrity and security through regular monitoring, error correction and data clean-up.
--- Fulfill District data security responsibilities to validate and maintain organizational roles with database systems to ensure staff have permissions appropriate and applicable to their job title/responsibilities.
--- Serve as the main point of contact for technical support when database applications are not functioning properly.
--- Import assessment data into SIS.
--- Coordinate and manage data sharing agreements with organizations outside the District and assist in providing data to fulfill agreements.
--- Keep database server and client systems up-to-date with patches and updates as appropriate.
--- Develop and provide training to users for assigned applications and systems.
--- Implement and comply with District policies.
--- Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours.
--- Troubleshoot and solve database-related technical issues that faculty, staff, and students encounter.
--- Provide individual and group technical application support to end-users of District enterprise applications including but not limited to Student Information System.
--- Provide training for users in individual and group settings including prepared written training materials, monitoring training effectiveness and responding to additional needs.
--- Evaluates and integrates business process solutions and suggests automated efficiency solutions.
--- Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the Department as well as other school personnel and community members.
--- Ensures that all software integration meets functional requirements, system compliance, data privacy, data warehousing and other specifications.
--- Creates detailed documentation of technical specifications necessary to ensure data passes back and forth between systems.
--- Utilize ticketing system to field, record and document problem resolutions
--- Help plan and manage the maintenance and replacement of computer equipment or software
--- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Professional Development:
--- Regularly assess staff training needs and provide both training and on-going support, enabling staff to use the software effectively and maintain data accuracy
--- Stay current with current and emerging technology systems, trends, etc.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
--- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
--- Pre-employment drug screening will be required.
--- Valid Oregon Driver's license and satisfactory driving record and proof of insurance.
--- Safe Schools training as required

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, including, but not limited to lift objects up to 35 lbs., and sit for extended periods of time

Work Environment:
Daily interaction with faculty, staff, parents, vendors, trustees, and volunteers. After-hours and special events support occasionally required. Problems that arise that are mission critical must be resolved as quickly as possible and may require work outside of normal business hours. Updates and patches performed during non-business hours.

Terms of Employment:

  • 12 Month, 8 hrs/day
  • Salary Range: $27.97/hr - $32.74/hr
  • Mileage will be reimbursed at the established Internal Revenue Service mileage rate.
  • Cell phone stipend of $40 per month.
