A PET/CT Technologist operates equipment that combines radiopharmaceutical imaging with CT technology to produce detailed images for diagnosing and monitoring various medical conditions, including cancer and heart disease. They administer radiopharmaceuticals, ensure patient safety, and perform scans while adhering to strict protocols and safety guidelines. - Primary Responsibilities: Performing PET/CT scans: This involves operating the equipment, positioning patients, and ensuring proper scanning parameters are set Administering radiopharmaceuticals: PET/CT scans use radioactive drugs (radiopharmaceuticals) to show metabolic activity in the body, and technologists are responsible for their safe and accurate administration Ensuring patient safety: This includes monitoring patients during the scan, administering contrast materials for CT imaging, and implementing radiation safety procedures Image quality and analysis: Technologists are responsible for capturing high-quality images, ensuring proper processing, and collaborating with radiologists to interpret the results Equipment maintenance: This includes calibrating equipment, performing quality control tests, and troubleshooting any technical issues Following protocols and regulations: Technologists must adhere to established protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements related to radiation safety and patient care Collaborating with other healthcare professionals: Working with doctors, nurses, radiologists, and other staff members to provide comprehensive patient care You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: |
