Responsibilities:



  • Continually develop differentiated literacy curriculum


  • Design formative and summative assessment tools to be used to inform instruction and communicate with families on children's progress


  • Collect, track, analyze student data to inform programming


  • Facilitate grade-level meetings with teachers in order to co-create units of study connected with the scope and sequence and conceptual framework of The School's curriculum


  • Facilitate individual teacher meetings to support specific goals set for both the teacher and individual students


  • Model lessons and provide learning opportunities for teachers to observe best practices in both content and pedagogy


  • Collaborate with learning specialists to support teachers in meeting the needs of specific students with varying learning styles and abilities including advise teachers on technology integration


  • Communicate our philosophy for how we teach literacy to families and continue to foster a strong home-school connection through in-person and virtual family engagement events


  • Keep current of new developments in the literacy field and act as a resource to The School community


  • Design and provide professional development workshops for teachers


  • Fulfilling all duties, responsibilities, and commitments as outlined in the school's Guidebook and the organization's code of conduct


  • Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records to write accurate, comprehensive student reports that reflect student growth and support their future education


    Qualifications/Requirements:


    • B.A./B.S. degree or an equivalent degree or educational qualification from an accredited college or university in Literacy or related educational field


    • At least two years full-time teaching experience in K-8 public or independent schools


    • Evidence of expertise in the science of reading, children's literature, and work with children at all levels of literacy proficiency


    • Experience strategizing techniques in optimizing performance in reading and writing


    • Proven ability to develop strong professional relationships with faculty and institute professional development in a collaborative environment


    • Experience conducting family engagement and education


    • Strong communication abilities including speaking and writing


    • Wide-ranging intellectual and educational interests and ability to understand and support an integrated curriculum


    • Commitment to equity and justice including knowledge and skills related to cultural competencies


    • Familiarity with new technologies


      Preferred Qualifications:


      • Advanced degree in a related field


      • Knowledge of Spanish
