The Department of Radiology at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, part of Columbia University Irving Medical Center, is actively seeking a clinically experienced MRI Physicist to be part of our Medical Physics Division. This role is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the quality and safety of our MRI services.
Columbia University Irving Medical Center consists of a main campus with a 1300 beds hospital located in Manhattan, a community hospital and a number of satellite medical offices. The Department of Radiology Facilities have state-of-the-art imaging equipment consisting of 18 MRI units, 10 CT scanner, 4 PET/CT scanners, 3 SPECT/CT, 20 special procedures suites, 24 fixed Radiography and R/F rooms, 9 digital mammography units, and many mobile radiographic units, mobiles fluoroscopy units, and ultrasound units.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality and Accreditation Management: Design, implement, and oversee quality assurance programs to track MRI system performance and technologist QA compliance as required by ACR and TJC. Ensure and assist the Radiology team for ACR accreditation submissions and stay updated on emerging MRI technologies for continuous improvement in equipment and image quality.
2. Image Optimization and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, and equipment manufacturers to optimize MRI exam protocols, troubleshoot image artifacts, and customize exam parameters to meet specific clinical needs.
3. MR Safety and Compliance: Act as an MR safety expert, develop and implement safety policies with the MR safety team, conduct annual safety training, and provide guidance on MR conditional devices and implants.
4. Clinical and Research Software Development: Develop and maintain advanced analysis tools and software for clinical applications and research, including data management for raw and post-processed MRI data needed for research protocols. Assist with research protocol development on MR scanners as well as advanced clinical postprocessing for MR spectroscopy etc.
5. Education and Training: Provide comprehensive MR physics education to radiology and medical physics residents, technologists, and graduate students, including advanced MR applications and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
* Master's or PhD in Medical Physics or a related field.
* A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in MRI Physics, with a preference for candidates with clinical experience.
* Board Certification by ABMP (in MRI physics) or ABR (in Diagnostic Physics) is highly desirable.
* ABMRS MRSE Board certification is also preferred.
* NYS Medical Physics license is preferred.
* Extensive knowledge of MRI equipment and software.
* Strong communication skills for effective cross-departmental collaboration.
* Up-to-date knowledge of MRI safety best practices.
Reporting: The MRI Physicist will report directly to the Chief of Medical physics
