Today Project FIND operates three supportive housing residences that are home to about 600 people and four senior centers with over 3,000 members. Our members and residents range from the healthy and active to the frail and homebound to the homeless. For all these individuals, Project FIND is a critical resource, providing housing, meals, and programs that help individuals navigate the challenges of aging by encouraging community engagement and healthy living.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Hamilton Senior Program Director (SPD) is responsible for the overall upkeep and maintenance of the entire center and other designated areas, will float across OAC sites to provide coverage as needed, and train other OAC maintenance workers to support/enhance task completion and technique. Must meet/maintain all New York City Aging and Department of Health standards.

General Responsibilities:

  • Sweep, mop, and maintain all floors and stairways (where applicable).
  • Replace floor tiles and ceiling panels as needed.
  • Perform minor fixes, such as repairing broken locks, damage to walls, painting/plastering etc.
  • Emptying of waste baskets and garbage cans.
  • Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Clean bathroom floors, toilets, and urinals. Replacement of toilet paper, paper towels rolls, and other supplies where needed.
  • Clean mirrors and glass. i.e., front door, bathrooms, bulletin boards, and bookcase.
  • Complete required paperwork to ensure compliance with NYC Aging and DOH i.e.: self- inspection, household/disposable inventory and execute storing supplies immediately upon delivery.
  • Transport furniture and other equipment across sites as needed.
  • Assemble and/or install necessary appliances and equipment.
  • Collaborates with other maintenance workers to determine the best course of action for required tasks.
  • Maintain the Center's offices, storage areas, lobbies, hallways, kitchen area and equipment as well as dining room in keeping with policies established by the New York City Department of Health and the New York City Aging.
  • Reviews calendar to know to set up for all special events.
  • Troubleshoot and report any maintenance issues that require immediate action to the SPD.
  • Performs other appropriate job-related tasks as deemed necessary by the SPD of the center and/or agency management. Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED required and/or 2-4 years prior experience in a maintenance position (preferably with senior center experience).
    • Experience working with tools, including hand and electrical units.
    • Experience working with floor machines.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • General passion for creative problem-solving. Schedule:

      Sunday- 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.,

      Monday- 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

      Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

      Work Environment / Physical Demands:
      • Tasks could involve moderate to heavy physical labor. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
        • Work may be conducted either inside or outside according to maintenance request.
        • Coverage and/or travel from one local site to another is required.
        • Walking, climbing, standing, sitting, and lifting are required.
        • Ability to read and utilize technical manuals and drawings.
