PHARMACIST IN CHARGE (PIC) - Grants New Mexico

JOB SUMMARY: The pharmacist in Charge is responsible for operational and compliance duties as well as routine operations of the department. When on duty the PIC will fill orders for drugs, monitor patient drug therapies, and provide drug information and is responsible for all clinical aspects of patient drug therapy. Essential Responsibilities: - Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations, audits and inspections.
- Manage inventory/returns/recalls and ensure proper storage of medications.
- Automated Dispensing Cabinet Super user: Omnicell
- 340 B management: routine accumulations and audits
- Ensure accurate billing of medications.
- Electronic Health Record: formulary maintenance in Cerner
- Ensure Sterile Compounding compliance
- Ensure the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and dangerous drugs.
- Maintain licensure
- PIC will be evaluated for pharmacy competency annually by Director of Pharmacy using the Pharmacy Competency Checklist at the end of this documentation.
- Maintain adequate drug supply.
- Prepare, compound, label and dispense drugs.
- Have the ability to assess, interpret and communicated age specific criteria in medications therapy.
- Maintain records of Pharmacy Department transactions as required by applicable law and departmental policy.
- Participate in approved continuing education programs to enhance professional capabilities.
- Perform clinical duties as required by Medical Staff and Departmental policies and drug protocols and at personal discretion when necessary.
- Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with physicians, nurses, other health professionals, patients and all other departments. This includes education for nursing and patients.
- Supervise technical personnel in the department.
- Participate in Rapid Response Team (code blue situations).
- Understand and act in accordance with CGH'S Compliance policy/Code of Conduct.
- Report to the compliance Coordinator any conduct or activity, either observed or made aware of, that could be considered questionable, unethical or illegal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: - Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS in Pharmacy, Pharm D. preferred.
- Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of New Mexico as confirmed by the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.
- At least 1-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
