Overview: Presbyterian is hiring a Device Clinic Nurse for the Heart Group at Presbyterian Hospital. The Cardiology Device Clinic Nurse is a highly skilled, technically adept nursing position that serves to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document professional nursing care of patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) to include pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy and implantable loop recorders. Is proficient and comfortable functioning autonomously as a provider for CIED management but also functions as a valued team member in the overall cardiology care of CIED patients. Perform in-person CIED evaluations, completing the required testing, assessment and management of device function for optimal performance; assess patient symptoms and clinical status with regard to patient's implanted device; address need for arrhythmia management, and/or adjustment of antiarrhythmic medication, anticoagulation and possible need for invasive electrophysiological intervention thereby collaborating with Electrophysiologist and/or cardiologist, or arrhythmias. A strong patient advocate, providing patient education specific to CIED management, underlying electrical heart rhythm abnormalities, arrhythmias and other cardiac related conditions. As a patient liaison, this position functions as an expert resource within Presbyterian Healthcare Delivery system in collaboration with primary care physicians, cardiologists, nursing staff, APCs, medical assistants, clerical and scheduling staff, Radiology department, Research Department, Hospice services and invasive CVL/Electrophysiology Lab. Responsibilities: - Interrogates, evaluates and programs implanted cardiac devices for in-person patient encounters with proficiency utilizing programmers for all four major device manufacturers (Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific and Biotronik)
- Recognizes CIED abnormalities, such as device or lead malfunction, End of Service indicators, notifies cardiologist and assists in scheduling patients for follow-up or replacement as indicated.
- Coordinates with other members of the healthcare team to respond, plan and initiate timely and efficient care for CIED patients.
- Educates patients and families regarding post implant wound care, device function, remote monitoring, and clinic follow-up routine
- Completes pertinent documentation for CIED assessment, arrhythmia management and anticoagulation status.
- Ensures timely and proper documentation for billing and provides appropriate CPT codes under overseeing physician.
- Responsible for reviewing/processing of CIED remote transmissions and trans-telephonic monitoring for alert notifications as well as routine transmissions.
- Knowledgeable of manufacturer device advisories/recalls and follows recommended guidelines by manufacturer for the specific advisory notification.
- Manages in-basket messages to include patient phone calls, MD inquiries and alert notifications.
- Maintains knowledge of department and regulatory agency policies and requirements
- Reports and tracks patient imaging data over time
- Participates in continuing education specific to CIED management, electrical heart disease as well as other related cardiac disease processes, i.e. congestive heart failure, genetic & congenital heart disease.
- Provides cross-coverage within CIED department to satellite facilities at Rust Medical and Santa Fe Medical Center.
- Serves as an expert resource for device and arrhythmia management to CIED technicians, nurses, APCs, cardiologists, Research Department, Radiology Department, and primary care physicians.
