            • Assesses the teaching needs essential to continuing education and development of new and experience nurses. Identifies, evaluates and implements instructional material in all types of media and formats to meet the needs of the Nursing Staff.
            • Develops curriculum for the identified programs based on standards of care, evidence-based practices, and education needs of the participants.
            • Coordinates orientation for new staff, working closely with the departments to ensure proper orientation is completed. Develops, organizes, and evaluates initial an on-going competency training.
            • Promotes ICU nurse professional development and competency through specialized training and certification programs.
            • Operates various types of medical equipment, computers, and audio-visual equipment.
            • Functions as an educator/preceptor of the ICU Nurse Team,
            • Maintains and prepares reports regarding employee education via Health Stream, presents these reports and other staff development reports monthly. Prepares and maintains financial and material resources requirements for ICU education and training programs.

              Qualifications

              BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

              Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

              Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

              Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

              Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

              GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level

              • Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
              • At least one year or more full years of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.

                MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

                GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Utilizes existing and self-developed teaching tools and course material and class population and consults with other members of the educational department team for their input into specialized training programs. Assesses learning and training needs of newly licensed nursing staff and contract/agency staff utilizing a variety of tools from which recommendations for in-service education, specialized training, individualized training, and new and improve training programs can be made. Collects and organizes data obtained from assessment methods. Teaches and/or directs and coordinates others to teach utilizing new or adapted approaches, Utilizes appropriate teaching methodology and leveling techniques to ensure course effectiveness and proper learner responses.

                Time In Grade

                Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
