Job Overview:Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates child life services to meet the therapeutic, educational and/or diversional needs of the patient, facilitating adjustment to illness, disability, hospitalization, painful procedures.Qualifications:Required:

    Bachelors degree in Child Life, Early Childhood Education or related fieldCompletion of Child Life internshipChild Life Certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to take and pass certification examination within one year of hireAmerican Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification Driver s LicenseWork or volunteer experience with children with special needsPhysical stamina to lift, maneuver patients and equipmentTherapeutic handling of patientsCognitive ability to evaluate patients and complete documentationAbility to drive hospital vehiclesAbility to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of diagnosesTact, enthusiasm, initiative and professional judgment in performance of dutiesAbility to manage time efficiently and effectivelyGood communication skillsCertifications and Licenses Required:
      Child Life Certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to take and pass certification examination within one year of hireAmerican Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Driver s LicenseScheduling Requirements:
        Full Time, 40 hours/weekSunday - Thursday4-day shifts, 1 evening shift12 weekend days per yearEssential Functions:
          Completes all documentation on time according to hospital and department policiesDevelops, coordinates and implements appropriate programming for a variety of age and diagnostic groups, matching developmental level, interests and emotional stateAssesses, plans and implements individual treatment plans related to illness-disability, social-emotional development, play preference-style, coping skills and family dynamics according to standards of practiceConducts individual sessions, team treats, procedural support and patient family teaching in a developmentally and culturally appropriate mannerActively supports principles of pain managementEvaluates Child Life services and makes recommendations to improve patient and program outcomesTreatment plan reflects collaboration and communication with patient, family and team. Discharge planning involves school re-integration services when appropriateCoordinates special events on a rotating basis throughout the yearAssist with personal, department and hospital growth and development through involvement in research, professional organizations and presentations to promote best practice and maintain certificationSupervises and-or assists with student interns as designatedEffectively utilizes and supervises volunteers and visiting groupsMay provide direction to students and volunteersOther Duties:Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
