Responsibilities: The Phlebotomist will assist the HarmonyCares Medical Group (HCMG) Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.
- Serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures
- Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with the clinician order and bringing discrepancies to the attention of Practice Manager
- Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients
- Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
- Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and observing isolation procedures
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating and noting times of collection and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
- Maintains safe, secure, healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
- Serves and protects the hospital or healthcare facility community by adhering to professional standards, institutional policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements
- Takes vital signs as needed
- Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab
- Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing
- Logs information in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards Qualifications: Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Phlebotomist Certification
- CPR Certification
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record
- Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks
- Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Experienced in appropriate IT technology such as IPad and GPS
- Interpersonal skills and compassion
- Ability to work independently, analyze information, think critically and problem solve
- Attention to detail
- Procedural and organizational skills
- Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural setting
- Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients
- Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
- Ability to read and understand road maps
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time -Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
