JOB TITLE:Animal Scientist (Multiple Openings)

JOB LOCATION:14344 480th Avenue, Donnelly, MN 56235 (Stevens County)

JOB DUTIES: Responsible for conducting research on animal nutrition, breeding, and management of boar stud for commercial swine production facility. Specific duties include: (1) screening boars before isolation to ensure PRRSnegative status and complying with facility's strict health requirements for entrance to the facility; (2) testing and monitoring acclimation process to ensure proper boar acclimation during 21-day isolation period before entry into main stud facility; (3) studying nutritional requirements of animals and nutritive values of animal feed materials to implement nutrition programs for boars, including monitoring production volume data for adjustments in nutrition program to improve productivity; (4) ensuring proper administration of preventive treatments, nutrition supplements, and other medication to ensure optimal semen production; (5) ensuring temperature control and biosecurity measures within laboratory to screen semen quality and quantity; (6) reviewing semen analysis to identify abnormalities and morphology, and determining correct extension ratio for proper semen dosage to ensure highest quality product; (7) reviewing and controlling animal selection and semen collection practices; (8) working with management and veterinary staff to develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, and disease control; (9) analyzing quality of semen in genetic lines throughout boar population to ensure optimal dosage; and (10) monitoring laboratory and semen collection facility environments to ensure sterile environment and comply with strict health standards.



REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or related; one year of livestock experience with specific background in herd health. Housing available in exchange for rent.
