Design Technician II Contract Duration: Through July 10, 2026 (with potential for extension) Location: Jackson, MI 49201 Work Arrangement: Hybrid (In-office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | Remote: Wednesday, Friday) of Openings: 2 Position Overview: CMS Energy is seeking a skilled Design Technician II to join our Metering & Regulations Controls department. This role primarily focuses on mechanical design associated with gas transmission and distribution facilities. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering teams to develop efficient, safe, and high-quality designs supporting gas facility reliability, relocation, and capacity enhancement projects. While this position is primarily remote, it requires periodic field visits and occasional onsite team meetings at our Parnall location in Jackson, Michigan. Key Responsibilities: Design gas distribution systems for customer relocations, capacity expansions, and reliability improvement projects. Utilize CAD software, specifically Bentley OpenPlant or MicroStation, to produce detailed and precise designs. Track project progress and data using spreadsheets and databases. Initiate project creation, material orders, and procurement activities within SAP. Conduct field data collection, including outdoor site visits in challenging terrains or hard-to-access locations as needed. Develop supporting documentation and design standards to assist various engineering activities and projects. Required Skills and Qualifications: Associate degree in a relevant scientific or technical field is preferred; significant relevant design experience may substitute for formal education. Proficiency in CAD software, especially Bentley OpenPlant, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or comparable platforms. Strong computer skills with the ability to manage project data effectively. Excellent communication skills to clearly convey design intent to operational and construction teams. Ability to produce safe, ergonomic, and practical design solutions.
