Job Summary: We are looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Sales and Use Tax Accountant to manage the organization's indirect tax compliance and reporting. This role is responsible for preparing and filing multi-state sales and use tax returns, maintaining tax records, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with jurisdictional tax laws. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of sales and use tax regulations and experience working in a fast-paced corporate environment. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and file accurate and timely sales and use tax returns across multiple states and jurisdictions. Maintain and reconcile sales tax liability accounts and ensure proper tax treatment of transactions. Review sales transactions for correct taxability based on product/service type and jurisdiction. Monitor and research changes in sales and use tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance. Manage and validate exemption certificates, resale certificates, and customer tax documentation. Respond to tax inquiries from internal departments and external taxing authorities. Assist with sales and use tax audits, including data gathering, documentation, and issue resolution. Coordinate with IT, sales, procurement, and accounting teams to ensure tax is correctly applied to transactions. Support tax software implementations or upgrades and maintain system tax settings. Identify opportunities for process improvements and risk mitigation related to indirect tax compliance. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance or indirect tax accounting. Strong knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax rules across multiple jurisdictions. Experience with tax compliance software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex, Sovos, ONESOURCE). Proficient in Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite). Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Skills: Experience supporting sales tax audits. Knowledge of taxability for SaaS, digital products, manufacturing, or e-commerce (depending on industry). Familiarity with exemption certificate management tools and best practices.
