The Plainwell facility began operations in 1918 under the Murray Packing company. In the 1960's, it was acquired by Murco and in 1998 by Packerland. In 2000, Packerland was acquired by Smithfield. In 2010, the facility joined the JBS USA family.Plainwell is the only JBS plant with Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP), a packaging process that changes oxygen levels to extend shelf-life. The MAP process is a part of the Plainwell ground beef operation. Plainwell is also one of the few plants that produces ground beef patties. Over one million lbs (450,000 kg) of beef are produced each day. The Plainwell facility produces biogas in an anaerobic lagoon and uses it in place of natural gas to heat a portion of the water used in the plant. The facility was recognized by the American Meat Institute as a Tier 3 facility for its accomplishments with ISO 14001. As part of our total compensation package, JBS and offers comprehensive employee benefits designed to meet the healthcare and financial goals of our team members and their families today, tomorrow and in the future.QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIFICATIONS SUPERINTENDENTEssential Job Functions:Leads and directs the work of the Fabrication Quality Assurance SupervisorsResponsible for the monitoring and adherence of all quality specification of all domestic and export productOversee daily quality checks performed by QA Technicians including monitoring of GMPs and Food Safety related items.Responsible for all product codes and labels that are utilized in the facility which includes the maintaining of all files and communication with corporate labeling division.Responsible for any claims processing and trackingEnsure company SOPs related to HACCP are correctly followed in order to guarantee the production of safe and clean products, ensure training is completed.Oversee QA Supervisors and hourly QA technicians in all aspects of food safety and product quality for the fabrication areaEnsure audits, procedures and SOPs are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and modifications are made as necessaryMake decisions and direct production when non-routine events occurExperience Required:Previous HACCP experience in terms of developing, implementing, and modifying HAACP plansMinimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent, preferred College degree with background in Food Science/MicrobiologyMinimum 2-4 years
experience in numerous areas in a meat processing facility.Previous management experience in a manufacturing or production environmentSkills/Abilities Required:Ability to work with managers at all levels of the organization, including government agenciesAbility to identify and correct issues as they arise, both technical and interpersonalKnowledge and familiarity with regulatory requirements; working closely with both production groups and FSISStrong verbal and written English communication skillsStrong leadership, decision making, organizational and planning skillsFamiliarity of meat inspection regulations and general knowledge of plant operationsIntermediate level Microsoft Office skillsHACCP CertifiedMust be able to work flexible hours including some SaturdaysMust be able to work in extreme temperatures and stand/walk for extended periods of time
