To contribute to this mission, JSI is seeking an experienced Director of Proposal Development. JSI seeks an accomplished leader, entrepreneurial self-starter and team player to join a dedicated, smart and growing business development (BD) team that will report directly to the President and CEO. They will be a leader who both is inspired by new business development, and can inspire others to support BD efforts. The role will be a key player on a newly restructured BD team to grow JSI's impact, building and leading a team of the best proposal development professionals in the industry. The Director of Proposal Development will oversee resource allocation for bids, supervise capture and live proposals, ensure proposal quality, and strengthen/maintain BD systems and processes. This role will oversee BD training and capacity development (of both BD and non-BD professionals) across JSI, including establishing and supporting country/regional BD plans to identify and pursue new funding opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations. The ideal candidate will have experience promoting knowledge-sharing and collaboration among all global teams and facilitating the exchange of best practices, lessons learned, and successful strategies. The Director of Proposal Development will supervise JSI proposal writers and proposal managers. The preference is for this position to be based in Boston or Washington DC. We may also consider a fully remote position in states where JSI R&T is registered (AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, PA, RI, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WI). RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Proposal Development will manage JSI's proposal development systems in the United States and across our global footprint. They will direct resources and critical inputs from across JSI to submit winning proposals that showcase the depth and breadth of JSI's expertise and experience. The Director of Proposal Development will bring a strong track record of demonstrated success in business development and an ability to grow a portfolio, position JSI for medium and long-term success, and be a motivational leader, not just within the BD team, but also across the organization. The role includes the following tasks: - Supervise capture and live proposal teams
- Oversee resource allocation for bids
- Direct process management and oversee proposal quality, including by working closely with proposal managers, tracking capture progress, reviewing proposal drafts, and troubleshooting complex challenges
- Create / refine proposal development systems and processes, as needed
- Develop / supervise training and capacity-building of BD and non-BD personnel, including country management teams
- Conduct after-action reviews and oversee organizational proposal development learning
- Recruit and direct the efforts of a team of best-in-industry proposal writers and proposals managers
The Director of Proposal Development will manage a team of professionals. QUALIFICATIONS - Master's degree and a minimum of ten years' professional experience, with demonstrated experience working in both public health and international development
- A minimum of eight years' experience leading large scale public health proposals and/or managing business development efforts at organizations funded by USAID and other donors
- Proven experience setting up and maintaining appropriate processes, standards and reporting procedures on established business development teams; and proven experience building those teams
- Program management and implementation experience in LMICs
- Proven track record of identifying, tracking, and winning bilateral, multilateral and private sector solicitations
- Knowledge of international development, current trends and priorities, particularly in the field of health
- In-depth knowledge of USAID and other international development funder programmatic priorities, business practices, rules and regulations
- Ability to analyze and synthesize a wide range of information in order to develop proposal strategies
- Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organized manner
- Fluency in English, written and oral. Fluency in other languages preferred
- Experience working with Salesforce and managing Google Workspaces, preferred
- Humility, respect, ability to collaborate
- Willingness to travel internationally as necessary (-15-20%)
