Job Description
X-energy is seeking professionals to join our Reactors team in the role of Fire Protection Engineer. This position is tasked with documenting, capturing, and managing the technical requirements and configuration of a specific mechanical system from the highest level to the contract end item level. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of engineering products while ensuring they conform to all technical and program requirements. Also responsible for implementing rigorous, repeatable System Engineering processes, ensuring technical integration, monitoring, and evaluating risks, and providing system-level oversight and support. You will achieve mission success by bringing the system from an initial requirement to a fully functional operational system.

Responsibilities

• Direct the development of mechanical/physical concepts, designs and develop process to create structures systems and components (SSCs).
  
• Manage and direct the system development including planning, monitoring, and controlling of the complete engineering effort through all development life cycle phases.
  
• Direct the product development leads and subcontractors to define system and subsystem functional and physical architecture, critical design parameters, and descriptive drawings.
  
• Identify, collect, and document applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis and criteria by coordinating with key stakeholders/systems engineers and identifying applicable industry codes and standards. Have a thorough understanding of the requirements contained within industry codes and standards and the intent which is implied.
  
• Direct the planning for the analysis required to assess all aspects of the SSCs to ensure they can perform their intended functions and meet all technical specifications and requirements.
  
• Direct, oversee and perform computations utilizing hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations as required to ensure SSCs can meet all technical requirements.
  
• Direct performance of work in accordance with X-energy project quality procedures for design and configuration management.
  
• Write and oversee development of design documentation including, but not limited to, design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, design descriptions and drawings in accordance with applicable procedures.
  
• Demonstrate project management skills to effectively organize and lead external engineering partners.
  
• Develop the technical content for and support the procurement of material, equipment, and services.
  
• Oversee procured items and associated documentation for acceptance and verify compliance of procured services and material with contract specifications.
  
• Review system engineering documentation from other systems for technical correctness and compliance with X-energy processes and procedures and participating in design reviews for other systems.
  
• Actively support the safety culture and ensure integration of quality in all System Engineering processes by complying with the relevant requirements of the Quality Assurance Program.
  
• Mentor, assist, and oversee work performed by assigned Mechanical Design Engineers.
  
• Develop and oversee implementation of engineering changes in accordance with approved procedures.
  
• Identify, document, report and manage system and project risks to ensure they are visible and mitigated accordingly.
  
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
  
  
  Minimum Education/Qualifications
  
  • B.S. in Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline, with a preferred M.S. in Systems, Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering (or equivalent experience).
    
  • Typically, 5 plus years Systems or Design Engineering experience in successful mechanical system development projects.
    
  • Typically, 5 plus years of experience with design and operation of mechanical systems specifically HVAC or fire protection systems.
    
  • Typically, 5 plus years of experience and/or exposure to systems at an operational nuclear facility (commercial, National Laboratories, or Government) preferred.
    
  • Typically, 5 plus years of experience with technical contract management (specification, bid, review, recommendation/award, submittal review, change management, contract closeout) preferred.
    
  • Basic understanding of system requirements management, and verification.
    
  • Basic understanding of Systems Engineering processes, as well as relevant aspects of nuclear power plant licensing, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements.
    
  • Technical proficiency in fundamentals of mechanical design for structural and fluidic components, mechanisms, or manufacturing & processing equipment.
    
  • Ability to effectively coordinate interfaces between systems, disciplines, contractors, and clients.
    
  • Communications proficiency - strong oral and written communications skills are required.
    
  • Ability to adapt to and use various computer application platforms is required.
    
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, or similar software and .pdf editing and markup tools.
    
    
    Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD (remote work is a possibility)
    
    Travel Expectations: up to 25% as projects require
    Hours:8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri
    
    Compensation
    
    As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.
    
    A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:
    $109,890 to $140,415
