Department Summary: MITRE's Systems Security Engineering Department is seeking an assurance-focused Systems Security Engineer with experience executing all phases of the Systems Engineering life cycle including concept, proposal, planning, requirements analysis, implementation, integration, verification, transition, validation, operations, and sustainment to ensure resilient and secure solutions for sponsor needs. This is an opportunity for a technically sharp self-starter to contribute to efforts defining, designing, and developing engineering capability to assure critical national assets. The engineer will help sponsors understand the engineering environment, contribute to experimentation and development of next-generation capability, and influence capability development decisions. This is an opportunity to advance the science and practice of systems security engineering. To succeed in this position, you must be a subject matter expert in a broad range of engineering topics ranging from strategy and planning, governance and management, systems engineering, and assurance engineering. Roles and Responsibilities: -
Advise sponsors in developing and acquiring trustworthy secure cyber-physical-systems -
Research and develop engineering guidance and training materials for assurance and systems security capabilities -
Provide pragmatic demonstration of developed systems security engineering guidance and training -
Provide policy analysis to sponsors -
Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes assessing systems and technologies for resilience and security -
Serve as systems security and systems assurance subject matter expert (SME) to stakeholders and collaborators Basic Qualifications: -
Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field and 10 + years applicable experience. -
Must have an active Secret clearance for consideration. -
Documented success using effects-based security engineering techniques and analyses: e.g., loss driven analysis, System Theoretic Process Analysis -
Knowledge of Secure Cyber Resilient Engineering (SCRE) -
Familiarity with emerging assurance technologies -
Familiar with the use of formal methods within engineering life cycles -
Experience working in/with military or intelligence operations -
Thorough understanding of NIST SP 800-160 Volume 1 -
Have knowledge of assurance cases and assurance practices -
Excellent writing and communications skills -
